I would look for someone who had experience in castration. An MD who never cut a set of nuts would be less desireable than a cutter who had done a hundred. An MD with alot of experience, who is effective and well repected, would be the way to go if you have the cash.

Going to Mexico to find a doctor on a lark sounds like trouble. There is a good chance you'll find a clinician who may have no surgical experience, let alone castration, willing to wack your balls off, pat you on the bum and send you back across the border.

Castration is not so common that residents in med school would ever gain a proficiency. Depending on if a person wants the scrotum removed, my preferance, the amount of experience may be nonexistant for a doctor. Castration for prostsate CA would not involve removal of the sack. The scrotum being highly vascular with muscle and nerves, would likely be much more difficult to remove than just the testicles. A cutter who uses multiple sutures to close the incision after removal of the scrotum would be desirable. Again, going to Mexico, you may have some guy cut your sack off and staple you back up! What would be left is a nasty scar.

Actually, castration is a very common procedure, and many residents are quite familiar and skilled with it, notably in urologic practice. By conservative estimates, the US alone probably has in the vicinity of about 2 MILLION eunuchs, most the result of prostate cancer treatment. Many are surgically castrated, but the trend is toward chemical castration. These numbers are based upon the reported numbers of castrations (chemical and surgical) reported in medicare statistics in the US, as well as life expectancy post castration of prostate cancer patients.

These numbers do not begin to account for patients with testicular cancer, groin injuries, assaults, etc.

I agree with what you are saying...but then I disagree.

Castration can mean many things from removal of the testicles, to the scrotum and testicles, to the whole nine (or maybe 4 yards). However the removal of the testicles, tying of the cords and closusure is not as involved as a complete removal of the scrotum. In fact I would argue that the removal of the testicle is much simpler that taking the whole sack. Whenever a prospective eunuch seeks castration, I think it would be of importance to queery their competence on removal of the sack, if that was required.

Yeppers. That's what the papers said, so it must be true

It seems that such was the case. There was a bit in some other publication stating that they spent a few days in a hotel, suffering greatly, post-snip.

From that one might deduce that they didn't choose their snipper too wisely or well OR that follow-up care was non-existent.

Stuff like that makes me all the more grateful that I am not a guy!

That reminds me...I wonder now and then if I would be interested in castration, especially for myself, if I was a male. Hmmmmmm.

Doctor is the ONLY way to go...

Urological residents would have LOTS of experience. Or at least they did at one time.
