Anyone know info on Moapar?

Post by twoagree (imported) »

I have found a few links describing Moapar and how it effectively lowers levels to castrate levels. I haven't found a link to order, only dosages and how to administer. Any help or info on this drug would be greatly anticipated. I've tried Depo but didn't like the night sweats and quite honestly the pain in the ass. Thanks!

It's not in production yet...

Moapar® 3-months approved for the lowering of testosterone to castrate serum levels for control of sexual drive in adult men

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 20, 2006 - The Debiopharm Group (Debiopharm), a global independent biopharmaceutical development company specialising in oncology and serious medical conditions, announced that Moapar® 3 months was granted marketing approval (MA) by the Swedish national authorities for the reversible reduction of testosterone to castrate serum levels, in order to control sexual drive in adult men. Debiopharm will apply for wider European approval through the Mutual Recognition Procedure (MRP) and will be seeking a commercial partner for the sales and marketing of the product.

In the treatment of sexual deviations in men, administration of a drug every 3 months is an advantage over daily oral forms or intra-muscular weekly injections required with antiandrogens such as cyproterone acetate (CPA) and medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA).

Moapar® has shown fewer side-effects compared to antiandrogens (CPA and MPA), including a lower risk of hepatocellular damage, thromboembolism and gynecomastia. They show neither cardiovascular toxicity observed with diethylstilbestrol (DES) treatment, nor hepatic toxicity induced by antiandrogens like Flutamide. Moapar® has no other risks than those known to be related to hypogonadism.

Moapar®, a gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) analogue, is effective in the treatment of sexual deviations by inducing and maintaining castrate serum testosterone levels. Two studies have shown that monthly injections of triptorelin over a period of eight months to seven years, in young male patients with sexual deviations demonstrated a good safety and efficacy profile. In the first study, plasma testosterone levels in five out of six patients dropped to castrate levels, from normal at pre-treatment (22.9 ¹ 2.8nmol/l) to 1.2 ¹ 0.3 nmol/l. In the other, 30 patients were treated successfully and all demonstrated reduction in serum testosterone levels to castrate levels, from normal before therapy (18.9 ¹ 6.8 nmol/l) to 0.9 ¹ 0.5 nmol/l after six months.

BTW, the nigt sweats have been the worst aspect for me as well while taking Depo Provers. Any skin to skin contact(especialy in bed) makes me start sweating.

When the Moapar reduces the serum T levels, I would expect that aside from the good response on toxicity issues, etc., one would STILL experience the effects of T withdrawal. Seems logical, particularly since they did not mention any of THAT. I would expect one would still suffer night sweats and hot flashes, etc.

I checked with Richard Wassersug, my favorite professor of medicine and a prostate cancer specialist. Here's his take on Moapar:

There is nothing special here. As I read the URL, this is just triptorelin an LHRH agonist, like Lupron and Zoladex, that has been on the market for a few years now. Triptorelin was a latecomer in this class and never got a large percentage of the prostate cancer market. So this looks like an effort to go after another potential market.

Drugs of this class are all very expensive. They cause osteoporosis, increase risk of metabolic syndrome, increase risk of fatal heart attacks, hot flashes and, of course, reduced libido. They may cause depression and memory loss. On the other hand, they are the standard drugs for chemical castration of advanced prostate cancer patients in the affluent world. See

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triptorelin

The info at the URL that Ramses has provided is sleazy in how it cherry picks the pros for this drug versus other castrating chemicals without talking at all about the down side, nor about the cost.

sounds almost exactly like Lupron Depot but with a new market angle, i agree, the fact they concentrated on just one market segment instead of the general purpose of the drug (to chemically castrate) tells me this may be a slightly reformulated drug with market targeting "sexual deviations" which in some countries can mean anything from infidelity, homosexuality, all the way to pedophilia... (a drug that treats from adultery to zoophilia? lol bad i know...)
