I would be interested in the legal aspects of castration as they apply in the UK.
Is it against the law to be castrated voluntarily?
Is it illegal to carry out a castration on a willing patient?
If a case went to court, who would be prosecuted - the cutter, the patient or both?
What kind of sentence would be awarded of found guilty?
Who can authorise a castration - only a doctor?

You can probably obtain the information you need at this site:
The Corvidae Counselling Group
http://www.corvidae-counselling.org.uk/
I think it takes about a year of councelling before you go to a surgeon. (They don't do scenes.) They say it's much less expensive than a TS clinic.

Hope,
Unless it was done in a clinical environment both parties are running the risk of prosecution. For the cutter it would be GBH but I am not sure about the 'patient'.
When the Police raided the BDSM party in 'operation spanner' a few years ago, one of the 'victims' had had a gas torch passed over his testicles. The victim stated in court that it was done with his permission, and even the prosecution admitted that after a few days there were no marks to be seen, but as I recall, the judge sentenced them to between 2 and 4 years. That is still the state of the law, so do be careful.
LOL

I think that in the UK we might be able to argue that there was a risk of infection in the hospitals and that your feared that the doctor might not be competent
After all a vet would would be more esperienced anyway.

Linda,
In some ways, you are correct. It takes 3-4 years for a doctor to qualify to start practicing medicine and up to 7 for a vet.
However, you may remember that a few years ago, a vet was invited to assist in an operation and that when it got out there was a terrific row. A vet is not licenced to perform even minor procedures on a human and is liable for prosecution if he does. The fact that he can operate on any from a mouse to an elephant including other primates does not seem to matter.
I am sure that in the right circumstances one might oblige and in so doing is probably a damn sight more experienced than most doctors.
LOL
