Orchialgia and NSAIDs
Hi all, and thanks for those who responded to my previous posts with excellent advice. I have chronic Orchialgia that radiates through the perineum. The only thing that seems to work is an NSAID called Indomethecin. It's very powerful, but I cannot take it due to gut issues. Does anyone have any other ideas? Maybe a clinical trial for something new? I don't want to do opiates.
Cheers,
Marco

Gaabapaten (SPelexed rong) and Lyrica. Give one or both a try. Lyrica worked but I was the 5% whose brain went BONGO on it...
Tens therapy is an option you should consider.
Nerve Block injections. These should be tried because some men get full relief just because they interrupt the pain "circuit" I've also heard of men that just do them monthly and get major relief.

Re: Orchialgia and NSAIDs
I lived with this condition all my life just about till i had the final cure
Tens.. temporary but comforting
Nerve blocks.. built a resistance, was up to bi-weekly and they were wearing off in 7-10 days.
The Lyrica and same class drugs also made me phase out of reality, couldnt tell what was real and what was in my mind.
Surgical nerve strip works for some men, most grow back in 4.5 years
Read though MrT's group playbook, it has it all, my final urologist was very impressed when she saw it.

I'll look into 'TEN's as I am already on lyrica (thanks Mr. T). Nerve stripping sounds exotic, I'll mention it to my pain guy next time.
More ammo to spend, thanks.

I also had problems (serious) with Lyrica. I found it difficult to operate my car. I had problems remembering which foot did the brake and why and when to use it of all the weird things. And even simple communication was scrambled. I hated Lyrica other then the relief from pain which it did seem to do... I think!?
The playbook that I posted on the Orchialgia Yahoo group is a good guide for the treatment of chronic testicular pain. My Uro / Surgeon said that this helped him of all things because it showed in black and white what other doctors did and in what order. When we had tried everything that we could and I had decided to go through with my Orchiectomy he said that he would normally have "opted" out (Not being a fan of Orchiectomy for Orchialgia) but that my being educated about ALL my options and having given them a try was the key.
I hope you find a solution soon that works for you. Oh! One thing I wanted to say about NSAIDs. The pain meds like Motrim Advil are (According to my pain doctor) one of the #1 reasons that people have ruined livers. That being if you pop these too often or too many at once. Be very careful when using them. They are serious drugs even tho they are over the counter!
I was also offered Nerve cutting as an option. You should ask your doctor this to verify but my Pain doctor said that cut nerves tend to bloom out looking for connections and if there is material to brush against them you can end up trading one pain for another (maybe worse) When I pondered this I added up my options and decided Orchiectomy was most likely to give me 100% pain relief and went for it.

Be careful with Gabapentin... It's main purpose is as an anti-depressant, and when I was on it for neuropathic pain I had all sorts of nasty side effects.

My doctor just had me start with Gabapentin for my neuropathic pain, what were your side effects?

I had severe personality and mental state changes. I can't remember the full extent of the changes because it's been 4 years since I took it, but I do remember they they were not pleasant at all.

I don't think its ever been used as an anti-depressant its for seizure and pain control. And btw Anti-depressants don't change your personality. *Or at least are not supposed to.

Re: Orchialgia and NSAIDs
I'm on Cymbalta + 3600mg Neurontin (Gabapentin) a day. Together they keep my leg/feet neuropathy in check. The Neurontin also gave me back a lot of mobility by restoring use to me of my right leg which also suffers from ridiculopathy.
Sode effect seem to be ejaculation frustraion. I can use Levitra or Cialis to get hard, but getting it to pop is it's own kind of problem.
