Avodart??
My doctor just gave me a precripstion for Avodart to reduce an enlarged prostate. Does any one have any experience with the side effects? Is this a good drug to reduce the effects of "T" ? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Avodart??
it reduces DHT which is what the prostate feeds on. Its a weak form of chemical castration, has more effect on some than others. Sides are the same, but not as frequent. Gyno and impotantance are primary. Depression is less an issue with DHT only suppression.

Re: Avodart??
The primary side effects are going to have to do with DHT suppression. Regular T is not suppressed, and may in fact be increased through less of it turning into DHT.
The side effects are going to depend on how you respond to DHT suppression. Gyno seems rare for someone with normal T levels who is only suppressing DHT. Sexual side effects are a lot more common.
I personally noticed only delayed ejaculation. Many others notice ED, and some notice decreased libido. I got neither. You can probably look at SSRIs as a possible guide of what to expect in the sexual department if you have ever taken those (and in today's society I am pretty sure just about everyone has at least once). For me I also only get delayed ejaculation from SSRIs. It seems that most guys get at least impotence as well as delayed ejaculation from SSRIs, and many get loss of libido plus the other two. But for some reason I only get delayed ejaculation - no ED or libido loss, and I also only get delayed ejaculation on DHT suppressors (I briefly took Proscar for a short while before my castration).
Any general chemical castration drug that redcues T as a whole will also work for your prostate problem, if chemical castration is your goal as well.
