These are pictures of an actual polar bear attack in Churchill.

They were taken while people watched and could do nothing to stop the attack.

Those are some very frightening pics! I sure wish I could have a viscious polar bear like that to watch over my yard, for sure he would scare off any would be trespassers!

Keep in mind that those cuddly little baby animals grow up to be large enough to eat YOU.

That baby is so cute! However, playing with the little polar bear in that fashion is dangerous because if gets use to playing with people that way now it will want to do the same later when it gets big!

Polar Bears are the most dangerous creatures in the world, and a typical adult is over six feet tall and is really fast!

they are cute now but what about when he is eating that leg he is playing with later when he grows up? will you still think he is cute?

Knut was a sensation a little over a year ago, when the zookeepers at the Berlin Zoo decided to raise him themselves after he was rejected by his mother. Some animal activists actually insisted that the zoo should kill him because they felt it was unnatural for him to become too attached to humans. He was the Berlin Zoo's star attraction until late last year, when I understand that they shipped him off to another zoo because he was getting too big and they no longer had enough room for him. The zookeeper who raised him eventually had to stop playing with him because he was just getting too rough, and didn't know his own strength.

I always wondered why we have developed an atavic aversion to wolves but not to bears, since both are such dangerous animals? Maybe European bears are comparatively not so dangerous?

It's because bears look so much more cuddly.

Seriously, I don't know the real reason, but I'd guess it has to do with the fact that wolves are pack animals who attack in groups, while bears go one-on-one. We tend to have a natural dislike for those who gang up on someone.

Both Wolves and Bears are far less of a threat to humans than the other way around. Wolves and bears tend to avoid people as much as they can and who can blame them. Most bear attacks happen when hikers surprise the bears. Bees kill more people each year than bears or wolves combined, and mosquitoes are even more dangerous than bees, and far more dangerous still, is commuting to and from work on our highways.

gotta agree with u there - this may sound quite preachy but the most dangerous, vicious and cold-blooded beast on the planet has 2 legs... Man! despite those of us that accept nature for what it is, there seems to be an unfortunate natural talent for mankind as a species to destroy totally anything that gets in our way...

living in the uk i can't say i've ever stumbled across a bear in my yard, or may have cougars living in the mountains around my home, but humans have killed many more creatures overall than probably all other species combined...

on a lighter note, that bear is sooooooo adorable!! makes me feel all warm n fluffy inside!! mebbe I cud get one for me birthday?!
