At least our dear Nun didn't push the wrong button and blow up the Archive.

I did that once.

Talula damn near flew down to shoot me in person...

I was so proud of myself!

I was re-setting the time (I thought) on how long one can edit a post before an edit note shows up. I set it for 10 minutes (used to be 5 minutes). I mistakenly re-set a moderator lock on edits. Has been fixed. My apologies.

Thank you Kristoff,

I'm very happy now that things are back to.... well I was going to say normal but... well any way there back to the way I'm used to and for me that is normal.

Thanks again

WHEW ! Thank Heaven. I make a LOT of typos for two reasons. One is that I learned to type on a very old mechanical typewriter which had keys 1½ inches apart. I have never really gotten used to the cramped crowded keyboards on word processors, electric typewriters, and computers.

The other reason is that, owing to a neurological problem, my fingers are numb and don't always strike the keys which I want them to. I TRY to correct all of my typographical errors before submitting a post, but we all tend to see what we THINK we typed, not what we ACTUALLY typed. I have to proofread a paragraph at least twice before I can be sure that I've caught all of my typos.

Guess what ? EVEN THEN, some of 'em slip through. I don't really understand why there has to be ANY time limit on correcting errors in one's own posts. I'd appreciate it if Krister or someone could take just a moment to explain to me why there has to be a time limit. Thanks.

This is better service then I get on another web site uh the one I moderate.

Thanks Kristoff!

The only time limit is on whether an edit note appears on your post, whether by your own doing or an admin. It just leaves a note that the post has been amended. Edit tracking also allows me to see if someone is coming in and sabotaging posts (theirs, and effectively other's) after a snit or something. It allows me to prevent lots of damage. We had a recent bout of it from a suspended member who has since been booted. Other sites dont even allow edits after a few minutes (that is what I mistakenly turned ON, now OFF) - they just cut ALL issues off at the pass right away. We do want folks to be able to amend stuff but not to do wholesale deletions.
