New restrictions on editing posts
There are apparently new restrictions on editing posts. You now only have five minutes to edit your own post and then after that it is up there for good or bad if you have misspoken, or misspelled something. Even if you have thought better of something and want to take it down to spare some ones feelings it is still up there for good.
I am dyslexic and have to struggle a great deal with writing as it is. I hate to think my worst mistakes are beyond my repair and would be up on the board in perpetuity. I have had many occasion to catch critical errors in my post days later even after carefully reviewing my post several times.
I am not the only person here who has issues with writing either. I think this new policy will have a chilling effect on those of us who's writing skills are less than perfect. That would be a lot of people here at the EA I would think.
Please put it back the way it was.

Re: New restrictions on editing posts
I don't often edit my posts and then mostly right away when I notice a nasty typo. I do think a time limit is a good idea, although I did have one occasion to delete an old posting that was a bit out of line....
So I am not sure this change is a good one or not....

Re: New restrictions on editing posts
I have a little dyslexia especially when typing so I to need to correct. I have also been known to post something during a negative emotional state that I was glad to be able to go back and delete. If this is the new way I will have to be even more careful and only post when one of the more pleasant personalities is in control.
I went back to my old posts and I could not delete them if I wanted. This feels strange. There are times I have thought of deleting my ramblings and disappearing.

Re: New restrictions on editing posts
Kristoff gave me excellent advice. I write in a word processor first and then cut and paste for both the first story I did (I'm so excited waiting for it to be reviewed and hopefully posted in the story archives) and it also works here. But I also think Jemagirl should be listened too especially because she has been here so much longer than I have and her "reputation points" are so high. Someday I hope to get one, just one, of those extra point things too. Anyhow, if the same great advice that Kristoff gave me does not work well for Jemagirl, then I hope she gets whatever she asks for to help her posts as I really enjoy reading her posts and don't want her to feel "chilled" as she says. From NNuts, not a Nazi but intigued by the theme.

Re: New restrictions on editing posts
Sometimes my post makes perfect sense in regard to what I think I read in some one else's post. Later I'll see that I misread something in the OP and realize my post makes no sense at all. This is exactly what happened to me this morning.
Word processors are great and I would be lost without one but they don't prevent me from misreading other people's posts. I feel this new restriction puts folks like me who have issues with reading and writing at a disadvantage and I am not sure if I want to continue to participate under these conditions.
I'm not sure why there was a change but for me the negatives outweigh the benefits.
I am really uncomfortable with this.

I feel the same, I just had a similar experience with a post that after reflection I thought came out a little harsh , my intention was to be funny but the end result was not funny and perhaps even hurtful so I went back to edit it and noticed the edit function was disabled. I thought maybe it was a glitch but I see that its a change in the editing policy. I wonder what the advantages of the new wrinkle might be to the archive? thanks!

Re: New restrictions on editing posts
there has been basically one time i have wiped an old post, i wont go into it here now, but i didn't want to encourage others to follow im my footsteps in something with the scientific analysis and research and development and product testing i put into it making it SEEM safe, which it wasn't. As a ungraduated scientist I had yet to mature in my judgement and jumped the gun. This post actually helped my judgement grow.
The other post I edit long term is the protocols post and that is just to add new info as peoples experiences become abv, i haven't noticed the new edit restriction becuase its became more static and proven as tested.
nows there's a few, i wake up the next morning after posting late and want to wipe, feeling like i said too much, i haven't gone into that since the new restriction, but now im going to have to "chill" my posts a bit, prob save them for a few hours before posting to think if i really want to post it. Most likely ill forget about it and a post will be lost in the back of my harddrive.

I will check the settings. It should only be that you have 10 mins to edit without an edit note showing. I'll get back to you.

My bad!
I was re-setting the time (I thought) on how long one can edit a post before an edit note shows up. I set it for 10 minutes (used to be 5 minutes). I mistakenly re-set a moderator lock on edits. Has been fixed. My apologies.
