I would discribe sex drive this way.
Pre Hormone Replacement Treatment I would drive my car and see some pretty young ladies and more often then not the thoughts in my head were "Who does she think she is? or Does her mother know she dressed like that? or What a tramp"
Post HRT my thoughts would be more "positive" "Wow! Very nice, but I wonder what she looks like in Garters and Stockings?" *OK, maybe not THAT strong a feeling but the "What a slut" stuff was flipped 180 degrees.
Note that in either case I didn't "act" on this. I'm not driving with my head out the window yelling, "You dirty slut!" or "HEY BABY!" or grabbing anyone etc. During puberty (which I experienced in a faily normal way) I think I probably did some acting out that was dumb. The second puberty I had the advantage of some experience as a "sane" adult and could take the signals I was getting and not let them make me into an idiot.

Re: residual T-levels after castration
I agree with Plix that it is very difficult if not possible to measure level of sexual drive. It is possible that one could look into himself and tell something in the scale of 0 to 10. While 10 is maximum he ever had experienced, and 0 is lowest experienced level.
This method is not precise. Not speaking of measuring sexual drive or libido of different people.
This area of human sexuality is not studied very well by scientists. I've read many texts of psychologists regarding sexuality. In order to try to understand whats going on inside me. I've found that many of these texts are extremely subjective. Some are total crap. To me.
It is a nature of human, how they perceive their inner worlds. They do it very different. I think. In global terms it is the source of many big conflicts. Begin with conflicts based on faith....
Returning to sexuality, I have noticed that for most of people sex and love are indistinguishable.
Also even sexuality in general is very different depending whether it is based on T or E. I think TS people can tell it better than me.
Of my own experience I did not start to enjoy looking at specific features of other bodies until puberty. But I did masturbate long before puberty. My masturbation fantasies were not related to physical bodies of other persons. Perhaps there is something to do with brain developement or mechanism how sexual excitement lead to orgasm.
With reaching a puberty my orgasms changed a lot. They became much more concentrated and fast. Before puberty they were strong too, but it was more difficult to push myself over the edge, and when I succeeded I felt it all over my body. It was not concentrated in single point.
Perhaps men without hormes can tell something similar that I did experience before puberty about their orgasms?

Re: residual T-levels after castration
..........
But what about erections and pre-puberty? Little babies certainly get erections. (How do I know? I have a son, and I shared duties with my wife. I changed his nappies, bathed, and dressed him). I remember getting erections all through my childhood. I wasn't getting erections in response to sexual stimuli, but at odd moments during play; sometimes when doing something particularly satisfying, but often for no reason that I can remember. I also remember experiencing 'near orgasm' events during the couple of years before puberty. I had discovered the pleasure of masturbating but I always stopped when the feelings became too intense. The first time I went on and experienced orgasm/ejaculation was quite a shock. Nice though.
So if testosterone suppression through chemical or surgical castration causes impotence (and it seems that it usually does) I don't think it puts you in the same hormonal situation you were in pre puberty, I think it puts you in a lower testosterone than pre puberty state.

What I have seen from studies, is that T levels normally peak between ages 15 and 18 and then it starts to lower slowly. Really slowly.
Of my personal experience I can tell that I get strong erections very easy exactly at this age. And I got sexually aroused very easily. Not speaking of spontaneous erections that happened quite often during daytime. Sometimes several times a day. In my midtwenties I didn't get spontaneos daytime erections that often anymore. Perhaps once or twice a week.
What I want to say is that it seems like body get used to high T-levels and it does not respond to high T so actively anymore. And when T is lowered to prepuberty levels you may become more impotent than you were before puberty.
It is not studied very well what exactly makes a man horny. It is known that sex drive level is somehow in correlation with T level.
From castration experiences I have noticed that Sex drive will not go away instantly after castration - It does not plummet as fast as T-levels do after castration (either surgical or chemical)
this fact could point to separate chemical that directly affect brain by making one feel horny. That chemical production is stimulated by T. This system could be even more complicated.
that could also explain why man becomes less sexually arousable over time as this yet undiscovered system becomes less sensitive to T. You can call it also - adjust to high T levels.
It can not be explained with ageing, as generally ageing starts only after age 35 not 21.

Re: residual T-levels after castration
Its important to note (I think) that erections and erection quality can very quite a bit from healthy levels of testosterone. One of the problems for men with Hypogonadism is they come in to the doctor and explain that they no longer feel an interest in sex and that they have no nocturnal erections. The doctor treats them with Hormone Replacement and they go home horny but many still have erection issues that have little to do with hormone issues. It might be blood pressure, clogged veins etc.
Guys who get have a sudden loss of the ability to be erect often go kinda crazy because they "feel" horny but the only way they measure it is by the strength of the erection. So they try "hyper" sexual stuff on the net whatever and nothing happens and they start wondering how "broken" they really are.
