What are YOUR favorite cold remedies?

Post by jemagirl (imported) »

OK, I did my best to avoid this year but I've come down with a cold. So I am all ears when it comes to suggestions on cld remedies. Here's a few on my favorites.

A super spicy Bloody Marry ( It clears out your sinuses, burns your throat, and makes you not care too much ;p )

Lithuanian Viryta ( Honey Liquor - Mmmmm soooo good. Please send some right away ;p )

Super Spicy Chicken Soup

A nice long soak in a hot bath ( Bath oils are a big plus )

A nice movie on the TV ( something that doesn't make me think too much )

You know Dr. Phil has said

If you do nothing the cold will run about 2 weeks

on the other hand

If you take all sorts of remedies you should be over it in about 14 days.

Sorry you have a cold,

hope this helped.

Here's some more details and recommendations on adult cold remedies that have come about as a result of my latest research cycle.

1) Pour a glass of Orange Juice. Add one shot of Grand

Marnier and one shot Limoncello Liquor. Drink slowly.

Also doubles as a nice cocktail that won't get to too

schnockered.

2) Vrytas AKA Krupnikas ( Lithuanian Honey Liquor ) Consumed warm or cold by the shot or mixed with tea, it almost makes having a cold a good thing. Please find the recipe for Krupnikas below. Sadly you would be well over your cold by the time you finished making it, but you could always try ;p If you make some, or know where to get it, I will help you drink it cold or no.

3) The Nuclear Option. Make two Bloody Marries. The first one should be extra spicy with lots of pepper, tobasco and worcestershire sauce. The second should have extra booze. Drink the Spicy bloody mary as swiftly as possible to clear your sinuses and BURN the phlegm out of your throat. Use the second bloody mary as a pain killer. Repeat as necessary. Note: Do not drive vehicle or operate heavy machinery while using this remedy. Also resist the urge to dial friends and relatives while under the influence. If dizziness or vomiting occurs cease use immediately and make sure you are in the bathroom. Never use this remedy for more than two consecutive days.

Well I sure hope that gets you through your cold. Remember don't over do it, and if your worried about all that booze, just remember what party favors people have made out of the other off the shelf remedies :D

Big Hugggs to all my fellow cold sufferers,

Jema

Krupnikas Recipe (http://www.ladybridget.com/m/krup.html)

Krupnikas Recipe

A Lithuanian Honey Liquor

Compiled and presented here for your pleasure by Lord Riekin

Ingredients

2 Tbsp orange peel

1 Tbsp lemon peel

3 sticks cinnamon (break lightly)

4-5 pods of cardamon, lightly crushed

1 nutmeg, lightly crushed

3-5 cloves (leave whole)

1 tsp. fennel seed, crushed

3-4 allspice, lightly crushed

1 tsp black pepper, lightly crushed

1 tsp white pepper, lightly crushed

or 2 tsp grains of paradise, lightly crushed

3-4 thin slices white ginger

3-4 thin slices red ginger (if available)

1 Tbsp or 3 sticks of vanilla

a pinch of saffron (for color)

3 lbs. honey

2 quarts of water if using Everclear or 1 quart if using Vodka

750 ml Everclear or Vodka

Put water in large pot. Simmer dry spices until fragrant. Add moist spices. When blended, add honey, simmer but do not boil. When honey is dissolved, remove spices (strainer). Remove from any flame source and add alcohol. Let cool and bottle in sterilized containers. Makes 2-3 quarts. Some people drink this right away, but it is highly recommended that you let it age in the bottle in a dark, cool place, for at least 6 months. The longer this ages, the better it gets. (Two year old Krupnikas is as smooth as the best brandies.)

I'm seldom sick (well, physically, anyway,) but when I am I roll up into an adorable little furry ball (See:Flannel nightgown or jammies.) and make tiny whimpering noises until Ash(leigh) or some other sucker sees to my every need.

Works like a charm.

Practically speaking, I dose up with tons of Vitamin C, Zinc, (not the kitchen zinc!), and my mommy's caldo or some other nice soup. Of course, some Grapefruit Juice 'n Grey Goose Vodka make things all better.

Sometimes I sit all nekkid in the spa, after letting it get really warmed up, or the sauna. That seems to help too.

'Choo!...'scuse me.

Thankfully, I do not get sick often, but when I am striken... oh how hard I fall.

IF I am able to walk to the sink, the most important and effective cold/sore throat/flu remedy I can think of is to mix up a glass of warm salt water. Gargle, do not swallow it, gargle a mouthfull of warm salt water and spit, then take another mouthfull, gargle, just keep on doing that untill the glass is finished. Do a glass of warm salt water gargling whenever your throat feels sore, or you are congested, or your ears ache.

Some peppermint schnapps is good.

Finally, some honey and lemon juice if you can stomach it.

If I am able to eat, I like to have chicken soup with LOTS of ground pepper, somehow that seems to make a bad cold not so bad.

If you get a sore throat get some zinc throat lounges follow the directions and it will cut your sore throat time in half. This does work and you should find them at your local store.

The next thing to help with a cold....bang your hand against the wall until it really hurts! Now you have something to think about besides the cold!:D

In the future wash your hands with warm soap in water and say your ABC's twice while doing so...only this will kill viral bugs (ie Cold bugs and such) antibacterial products DO NOT KILL VIRAL BUGS! sio things like hand sanitizers do not stop the cold bug! Do not put your hands and fingers near your mouth or nose until you have washed them. Why? because that is the most efficient way to give yourself the cold....or in other words do not put your mouth anyplace that is not clean first....ok use your imagination hear! 😄)

Once you have a cold or flu its to late to fight it because it has done its job, and now your body has to deal with the after effects....that is the fun part!
