Omaha

Omaha, yet another teen suffering mental health issues took his AK47 and killed several people then himself.

The one before this was Virgina Tech., the same story.

Hail Charlton Heston, Hail the AK47, Hail the Second fucking Amendment.

Keep saying no to gun control and remember those word about prying the gun out of dead hands, well they did that yesterday in Omaha.

It is nice to see that there are people out there with hearts.

While this man's actions were not justified and my thoughts are with all the victims who were affected and their families, I also feel quite sorry for him. We will never know exactly what caused him to do this, but he was definitely in a lot of pain and was definitely human just like the rest of us. I hope that whereever he is now, he has managed to find more happiness than he ever did in this world. He certainly deserves it just as much as anyone else does.

As for the second amendment, I am a gun owner and support it fully. Taking away the guns will do nothing - focusing on the people behind the guns will do a lot more, as only they can decide what the gun will do.

I don't believe I said anything about taking away anybody's guns.

The point is that you can still have your damn guns and still have some laws in place to protect the rest of us that don't.

I am elderly and disabled. I have a Ruger 9mm for protection, also I have a concelled carry permit. New Mexico is a concelled carry permit state. I have never fired an AK47 and do not plan to do so. I have used and fired an M16. I was in the military during the Vietnam War. I have only used my weapon to scare someone off. Other than at the firing range, I have never fired my weapon. It is legal to have a loaded weapon in your car in New Mexico.

Ok Riverwind, just what are you saying? "Oh, you can have your guns but you just arent allowed to have them assembled." or "You can have your guns but you can't own any ammunition." ? What is your point? You obviously have more than a mild distaste for firearms and I suspect you wouldn't oppose gun confiscation.

There was a security guard at the mall but was at the opposite end and on a different level. By the time the guard was made aware of the situation and was able to get to the location of the shooting, it was over. Three minutes passed. Oh, did ANY new report that the mall was a gun free zone? Yeah, look how fucking well that worked out. Did ANY news report that the mall is in a concealed carry state but the mall doesn't permit licensed individuals to carry concealed? NOPE, not one that I have read yet.

Had a concealed carry holder been there, the carnage could have been stopped. The news never reports it when concealed carry holders are responsible for stopping these events. They are reported as "citizens took the gunman into custody." They don't say that the shithead slaughtering people were confronted by armed citizens that give them the option of surrendering or getting shot.

Then there is the stupid argument about, "Someone could get hurt by a stray shot." Well, la-tee-fuckin'-da!!! If someone is intent on killing, I'd much rather risk injury from a stray shot that would remove the threat than just stand there like a cow waiting for my turn to get shot.

As for the "youth". I feel nothing toward him but disgust. Hopefully he hasn't already reproduced. I do thank him for killing himself and saving the tax payers the financial burden of a trial and execution. There will always be people that are going to do terrible things regardless of how many signs are posted. I am not without compassion and wish that treatment could have prevented this. However, once he crossed the line into violence and started hurting others, my compassion ceases.

If people want to be sheep then good luck with evolution. I refuse to be a sheep and would rather die fighting back instead of getting slaughtered while pissing on myself like a coward.

Too many live in the protected illusion of an embryonic world and don't realize what a dangerous place the world is. You can't depend on the police, their response time usually ranges from 15 minutes to over an HOUR!!!! Besides, the Supreme Court has ruled that the police have no duty to protect the individual, their duty is to protect society as a whole.

Pry my gun from cold dead hands? Well, if someone carrying a concealed weapon had been there, there would certainly have been a lot fewer cold dead hands.

An armed society is a polite society.

📢

P.S. - Riverwind, nothing personal here, I'm just pissed off at how politicians jump on this to further their own agendas and how the media doesn't report the whole story. Things like this are used to further anti-gun agendas that only lead to more violence. There will always be evil men; we must be ready to be good men and oppose them.

I would agree things would have been different, but the outcome in my opinion is far from certain. There is just no way to tell how people are going to react as individuals. Police and swat teams train for this kind of situation and know how to handle themselves and their weapons. John and Jane Q. Public may panic immediately and not even remember they are carrying a loaded weapon. The other extreme is the individual who pulls his weapon too quickly when the situation doesn't call for it, and some one gets killed who was only carrying a super soaker. Also when ever there is a fire fight the swat team will be arriving on scene and they may just have a hard time telling the friendlies from the unfriendlies, and John or Jane may just get shot in the head.

Jemagirl - good points all. Admittedly some people will panic and run, forgetting they have a weapon and can stop the shooting (no harm done).

Some people are prone to pull their weapon without sufficient provocation. I such cases, they quickly lose their right to carry concealed (again no harm done).

If a person draws their weapon without sufficient provocation and kills an innocent, they they are subject to criminal prosecution. An innocent is injured or killed. However, someone prone to do this would have inevitably committed an act of violence anyway. (Result, an innocent is killed/injured by someone prone to act violently/impulsively and that person has now been arrested and sent to prison.)

It is true that we never really know how we will act in a situation like that but that is why we should think of these things and chart our possible actions in advance. That way if faced with such a situation instead of going blank the mind can fall back to a preconceived plan of action (this can make the differnce between panicking and saving your life).

People should train for this. By training, it doesn't mean having to become a martial arts expert or spending all your time in a gym keeping in olympic competition physical shape. It is simple things and habits one should aquire.

Here are some examples:

-When entering a strange building, make a mental note of where the stairs/fire escapes are as well as noting extinguishers when you pass them by.

-In a parking lot, never park in a spot where you can be hemmed in by a single vehicle (i.e., against a light post, wall or tree).

-Never park next to a van, panel truck or large SUV. It is too easy to quickly grab someone and drag them into the back of a van while their back is turned getting into their vehicle.

-If you get a "funny feeling" that something isn't right, LISTEN TO IT!!!!! That's your primal instincts warning you. Scan the area around you and leave if you have to.

Simple and easy things that can save you from being victimized.

BTW - The photo is very becoming, Jema. :)

Security took six minutes to get the incident. Who gives access to an assault rifle to a disturbed child? I cannot get security to respond in the department store where I work. One of our guards is deaf. None have weapons.

Taylor, you are wrong, I do believe we should be able to have guns. That said, there was a shooting last week I think in Texas where the guy told some robbers to stop or he would shoot. The police who were on the phone with him said "don't fire you gun" several times, he killed both of them, my guess is that nothing will happen to the guy.

This guy the other day, suffering from mental illness, took his dads gun and killed a bunch of people, the kid at Va tech was also suffering from mental illness, he got his guns at a gun show. The kid that shot up the school in Colorado took his dads gun.

What do we do? How do we protect the population that does not and does not want to own a gun from some guys kid grabbing daddy's AK47?

Don't you think some laws are in order making DADDY responsible for his own guns?

Do you think there should be a time limit on buying guns?

I dont have a problem with people owning guns, that to me is a personal choice. But along with owning a gun you should also have keep them safe.

Now at one time I did own a rifle, it was kept in a locked closet, the firing pin was in another location. As I kept adding kids to my family I finally sold that gun with no regrets. That was a personal choice.

Should we register guns? Yes, only on new ones at point of sale. I am not so nieve to realize that there are hundreds of thousands of guns out there that are not and the likely hood that they never will be.

Today I would like to get a gun myself, a shotgun.

When I get that gun I should have to register it, I should be required to take a gun safety course. neither of these violates the 2nd Amendment, but it will never happen because of the NRA. No origination should be so powerful as to push there agenda over common sense.

If these simple rules were in place that guy in Omaha would still have his AK47.
