In 2003 I had a umbilical (navel) hernia operation. They made a 4 inch incision vertically to repair the tear in the muscle (but did not have to use any screening) and glued me back together with some type of super glue on the outside, the inside had regular stitches. I was wheeled into the OR about 3 pm and was on my way home by 9 pm.
For the first few days after surgery I had to have help getting out of bed. You don't realise how much you rely on those muscles until you are injured. By day 2 I tied a piece of rope to the end of the bed so I could get myself out without help. I was off work for 6 weeks. I went back to work on a Thursday and it was good I did, I don't think I could have gone a whole week. It took time to get back to doing what I was used to.
The scar is still visible today but very faded. I think the younger you are the better your chances of healing get. I did not use any of the fade creams they have for scarring, but I hear they work very good if you are concerned about that.

Re: Small Inguinal Hernia Question.
For me it was tender for a few days, and i did have a difficult time getting out of chairs and bed. But that was it...the surgeon told me what type of screening he would put in...do not remember...but it was nonmetal and inert.
Would not hurt to ask your surgeon about it!

Roomie had one done about a year ago. Miserable bitch for about 5-7 days, whined about everything. They used chain link fencing for his to hold the large gut up.....

blondboy (imported) wrote: Wed Dec 05, 2007 11:20 pm I know that this question doesn't have to do with eunuch health or such but thought that people on here would be able to help with their advice since so many have had different types of surgery down there and such. I am a young guy (very early 20's) who just found out that I have a small inguinal hernia. My doctor thinks that it is a good idea to get it fixed in the new year before summer. Of course, I am quite nervous and all but was wondering if you could give me some advice (as my doctor here at university wasn't very good at explaining things and was quite rushed at the health center today). I do not want a visible scar left down there when they fix it. I know that during orchidectomies they sometimes go through the inguinal canal and since my hernia is an inguinal one the scaring and such should have similarities, right? For those who have had experience in surgery there or know others who have, what should I ask, suggest, look for in a surgery to insure to receive an unnoticable scar when healing. I've heard words like "surgical glue", "laparoscopic surgery", etc and know nothing about it. I have seen people who have nasty noticable scars from their hernia operations. The only surgery I've had was when I was six months old and so I really don't know what to ask the doctors so that I get what I want. Please let me know your thoughts, advice, etc so that I can proceed in an informed way. Thanks in advance for any help and advice that you are able to give.![]()
If it's a small inguinal hernia, it's likely that the less invasive surgery would not leave a lasting scar. It's often day surgery. Good luck if you decide to proced as advised, but I'd get a 2nd opinion.
I had a major hernia surgery a number of years ago and have a 10 cm scar, but it's mostly obscured by pubic hair. I have 2 minor hernias now, one inguinal, but the doc says I need do nothing about them as long as they don't get larger.
