That was a good read!

My dd had prostate cancer and had part of his removed.

I should go in and get checked.

I'd rather just have them take my testicles NOW! :)

Thank you for this article. We can control prostate cancer. The point is, once a man is castrated, the prostate just shrivels up and goes away. Without testosterone, it seems that the troublesome gland can simply not exist. I still have mine and it is still functional, but a small fraction of what it used to be. My PSA is very low, and I have not had the "finger up the butt" treatment in several years, but I expect it will happen in the next couple of months. My expectations are that the doctor will have trouble finding it because it is a mere shadow of its former self.

Two quotes of particular interest:

It would be nice to know the direct causes of these divorces.

Fortunately, TS's like myself aren't faced with such a dilemma. We get to have both (or all three, depending on how you look at it). :)

Terri

The only guy I know who has prostate cancer now has marital problems. Last news I heard, she was wanting a divorce, and he was trying to keep the house he built before she moved in with her daughter. They have two younger kids of their own. It's all a bit messy and very sad. I feel sorry for them all.

One question I have is this: If you are castrated and don't take T for several months then your prostate shrinks and no longer functions.. .. Does that eliminate the risk of prostate cancer? If you resume taking T will the prostate resume its function or is the shrinkage permanent and thus the cancer risk permanently reduced as well ?

Good question! I've been curious about this one, notably the resumption of function issue, for some time. No one I have spoken with seems to have an answer. Anyone?

As I'm still producing fluid when I cum, I can only assume it returns in size and function on the resumption of testosterone.

Did the fluid stop when you were not taking T or did it resume once you went on T ?

Between chemical castration and the real thing I have not ejaculated in years. I am not on any HRT. The most I have is a little precum once in a great while. Precum is not produced by the prostrate gland anyways, so it does not count. I had a complete physical a few weeks back and included the digital prostrate exam. Doctor said small and soft where it was large and firm in exam years before. The PSA number is >.1 or in another words can not be detected. PSA is the blood test to detect possible prostrate cancer. Doctor said my chances of getting prostrate cancer are extremely small now. Well that is one less thing I can catch.

Bobbie did castration effects shrink the prostate gland or another reason.

I think its the lower level of Testosterone. If you are post Orchi but take HRT you still have a good sized prostate and should have exams and PSA tests yearly.
