One quarter when I was at university, I had freshman roommate who loved racing slot cars (and not much else). He lasted one or two quarters, I think. A year later, he was managing a store that sold slot racers. I imagine that he ended up in Viet Nam. :-\

SunLord (imported) wrote: Thu Oct 25, 2007 12:17 pm I have a lifelong obsession with genetics and that expresses itself in a number of activities throughout my life so far. Next year I was seriously considering University.

Pure genetics wasn’t available during my kid years. I probably missed the opportunity to make a significant contribution to humanity via that pathway.

However the focus has helped me in this life considerably to understand the bigger picture. I now have come to the understanding that it was an obsession in a recent past incarnation and that I’m probably going to finish off the process of that life in this one.

But getting back to hobbies; I breed animals and record the results. These days those animals are thoroughbred horses, Australian cattle dos, guppies, fantail pigeons and for the last six years I have been bantamising super layers (hens)

When I was a school kid in my early teens I could recite Queen Elizabeth II’s linage back to William the Conqueror and Alfred the Great. Now days with computer technology at my disposal that has expanded to her pedigree and all the crowned heads of state of Europe (which are essentially one family or race) I’ve also done my own and anyone else’s I come into contact with.

All of the above animals also have a recorded pedigree even the fish but the real challenge is the race horse. I have traced their pedigrees back to the foundation stock which in some cases is the late 1600’s’ other than the royal family: I’ve traced theirs back to Adam and Eve.

{trivia time: your president George W Bush like 12 other US presidents is a descendant of King John of England and therefore the biblical Adam and Eve. It’s obvious now that Adam and Eve were monkeys}

I’m basically creative and I used to like painting but that matured into landscape gardening which I’ve done for a vocation for a significant part of my life but now do as a hobby

While not a hobby I have three preschool age children with my current wife and I enjoy involving them in all of my stuff, I’m a full on father

And these days I seem to be thriving on 2 ½ to 4 hours sleep a night.

Thanks for this opportunity to share.

Love you all
Somehow, I am trying to find a way to link this with slot racing. 🙏 Interesting hobby.

If the price of gold goes up a little more, I expect sag111 will get a dredge, maybe a three inch or four inch one. Hope they make an electric one he can buy, so he doesn't scare the fish.

There are people who claim it's possible to make a good living dredging for gold on the Klamath River. Getting close to winter time there, though.

I would hate to tell you the number of times I have tried to read James Joyce's "Ulysses". I do plan on making it through once in my life. Maybe some Scottish single malt will help. That I can get through.

At one time, I read about 1.5 books per day. Today I am lucky if I can manage 1.5 per year - time considerations.... God help me if I ever tried to get through some of James Joyce, never mind others of similar caliber

Geez, I've become an ill-read lout....

Lately I am playing around with motion graphics. I can make text objects do some really cool stuff at this point. I am using Apple's Motion 2. something or rather. I am also using Autodesk's Combustion. Apple is a little easier but it has some limitations. OTOH my copy of Combustion is so old it only runs properly on my old G3. That's pretty limiting as well. I'll update as soon as I cam master the old version and have enough scratch for the new one. By that time I may actually be making some money at it..... then I will have to find a new hobby :D

I love hearing about all your hobbies I like to read but lately I just dont seam to have the time for it.Today me and my partner went to the river and had a great time as every pan had gold in it.I just wish the pan was full of nuggets but the canyon was so beautiful with the wild olive trees and grapes even if we had found no gold the day was worth it.I can say one thing about this hobby it is getting this boy in shape as every trip has a hike and the one today was a three mile hike up and down the river edge.To get to the good gold bar we had to ford the river three times and by luck neather one of us fell down so we stayed somewhat dry until the rain came and we had to get under a large bolder to stay dry. Thanks for sharing you hobbies as we all have things to keep us from going nuts........thanks
