Made a quick visit. The entry page asked for a password, I gave mine, then saw the messagethat a password was not needed? For optional profile I put in "Class Of Spector 2001" but that did not show up in my chat room postings? And as usual, of the 5 people in the chat room, I was the only actual eunuch

I think it all depends on the time of day and things like that. After all, we eunuchs have lives, too.

Couple of comments

The reliability should be better than the server in germany. Also the cost ought to be better as well.

On the other side of the coin, in a room like this where lots happen in private chats.

most of the monitor gets chewed up with the main screen and the room window, nothing much left for privates.

The fact that pvts are forced from the main screen means you have to keep running around opening the room and pvt windows.

and the lack of whois support means you are forced into those really stilted conversations like:

Hi are you the bob i think you are?

Well which bob do you think i am?

Being a techno-geek, i know software is written by geeks who do really kewl whiz bangs which have nothing to do with people that use software.

So the chances of fixing functional problems ranks somewhere between, its on the list over in the round file and yahooooonn.

If thats a comment about the industry where i earn a good bit of my income, well so be it.

One other comment, I really enjoy this space, and want to thank all those that make it possible, and make possible the improvements we keep seeing.

1. Yes, reliability was the #1 factor in switching chat room software.

2. I wish you could open private chats from the room user list as well. I am going to bug the company and see if they will put that on the upgrade list (them being techno slackers notwithstanding)

3. PASSWORDS! A password is NOT required to chat, but you CAN register your chat nickname with me and then you use your password to ensure that no one else can use your nickname. Kind of like here on the message boards. That addresses the other issue to of finding out who is who - if Bob has Bob as a registered nick then you always know it's the same Bob.

4. Screen real estate. I haven't had much problem with this because I doon't really think it's different than it was with the old chat room. I keep the main forum screen in the background, drag the floating chat window up to the top right corner, and use the rest of the screen space for PMs. When I need to see the main forum window I maximize that page, then minimize it again to see the room chat and all my PMs. The chat room and PM windows are both re-sizable so you can adjust them to best fit your screen in the way you want to see them.

5. Profiles. Andrew, your profile doesn't show up in your post, but rather when you look at the main forum window (the one that show the different rooms) you can highlight a user from the list there and click the profile button to see what that person has entered.

6. As with any change I realize that there is a learning curve. There are a LOT of positive things about this software that I like better than the old chat room, and there are a few things I don't like as well. On the whole I decided that it was a positive move and I think (hope) that the users will also come to that decision.

One other small modification that perhaps could be made is having the software automatically open up the main chatroom.

I'm noticing a lot of people who enter the chat, but don't enter any chatrooms. Just thought that this might make it a little easier.
