Ticketing arrangements were completed this morning, and so I am now confirming that I will also be attending the August MoM. Is this the first time that Central America will be represented?

You will be our first "Central American" and Thefraj will be our first European. All the previous gatherings have only included members from the U.S. and Canada. Are there any Aussies or Asians out there who might be coming???

Anyone thinking about attending the Minneapolis MOM should probably make a room reservation soon. It’s easy to cancel when we get closer to the actual date of the gathering, but it will be prime vacation season in the area and rooms are already going fast.

I called yesterday to change my reservation and was told that the motel is nearly full for the weekend of the MOM. I just needed to switch from <non-smoking> to <smoking>, since my roomie for the event is practicing to be a chimney. Paolo and I will be sharing a space for the second time. (I took over his living room couch for a week last winter.) Tugon and Thefraj are scheduled for next-door. We hope there will be others nearby.

There are other motels in the vicinity and there may be sleeping bag space with one or more of the locals, but you ought to make your plans now.

My advice is to reserve now, and cancel in early August if you decide not to come.

Bobbie is the social director and general organizer for the event. Krister has been running local interference, checking out spaces and accomodations. I can also help with information about the motel where at least four of us will be staying. Contact any one (or more) of us for further information.

The way things are starting to look we may have well into the 30's before all is done. It may be bigger then many class reunions. In a way I guess it may very well be with the number of attendees that were castrated by Dr Kimmel or Dr Spector.

To all planning to attend - I WILL NOT be bringing my guns (none of them), nor my light saber, nor any of "my" boys, nor any dogs, cats, kids, :-\nor other assorted hangers-on. Anyone in attendance who has children that they no longer wish to support (biological or not) should bring them, however, along with legal papers and lawyer in tow, to promptly sign them over to Jesus and/or myself.

Yes! Stray kids are always welcome. I was shocked this morning to open the paper and find that half way down the front page was the headline, “Akachan Posutu: Shonichi ni 3-sai Danji ga Azukeraru – Kumamoto” [Kumamoto City: First Child Dropped off at the New “Baby Mail Box” is a 3 Year-Old Boy].

There has been an on-going problem in Japan of young women leaving unwanted babies in trashcans or coin lockers. One private hospital in Kumamoto, over strong objections, decided to open a baby drop-off point for unwanted infants. The story was in the national news for months. It opened yesterday, and the first child dropped off was a 3 year old.

All the hospital would say about him was that he knew his name, his father left him, and that he was healthy.

My wife’s reaction was that Japanese foster homes (15 kids to a room is the norm) and orphanages (even worse) are snake pits. Maybe we should put in to adopt him into a bilingual home….

Paolo, my wife, and I all tend to adopt strays of various species.
