Secondly, for those people who continue (to have to) seek back alley castrations, plan to go to the hospital afterwards and even have the cutter (or better yet a trusted friend) drop you off there. If police and ambulance are not involved, then your anonymity will be preserved (stuff that gets on the news is due to ambulance-chasing news reporters). So get the amateur castration if you must, but arrange to have someone drop you off at emergency shortly thereafter. You'll then get the best of both worlds -- castration fulfilled with professional involvement to ensure your life is safe(r).

And probably be sent to the bug house for a month or more? I don't agree that this is the best or even a fair idea. Whats wrong with working this out with a doctor if you need it done?

Because you'll still be labeled a nut, and won't get what you want. There is no practicing fully qualified doctor excepting possibly Kimmel who will do voluntary castration on non-transexuals.

I totally agree that if you can get what you want more safely, do so, but many of us have sought this for decades and so I can see where someone gets to the desperation point.

So, since I know people will continue to use cutters I'm giving them some advice on how they can make that somewhat safer -- i.e. seek professional help at least afterwards.

There is something funny (peculiar that is) about this story. It doesn't make sense and I suspect that there is something of a cover up here. No doubt that the surgery took place but no cutter would just go off and leave an almost complete castration scene with the patient unconcious and bleeding as described here. My theory is that the wife and/or daughter or friend preformed the castration on the concious guy and they then concocted the story to get it fixed up in an emergency room after they lost control of the bleeding. I hope there is a news follow up on the further investigation. Any photos of the crime scene?D:D

You're absolutely right. I can't imagine a regular doctor being in a position to help a person with obtaining an elective orchiectomy that is not deemed a medical necessity. I don't think that a shrink letter (if one is even lucky enough to obtain it) would be sufficient, either. There are some exceptions, but generally, the odds are pretty dim. The irony is, all we need are but a few qualified younger surgeons willing to do the job - besides the ageing Kimmel - in order to adequately cover the needs of most of us here. Until then, we are obliged to help others to do it as safely as at all possible, in the cases where the only alternative may be cutters or self-surgery.

I've heard the Newspaper accounts are rubbish. NOT a big surprise.

I guess I'm coming in from this from a different direction. Dr Alter (I believe) said he would do an "elective" if the person was not insane. If I understand Dr Bowers policy I think this is pretty much the same thing. Dr Reed in Florida does this but I'm not sure what if anything he needs up front before he will entertain the idea. By "elective" I am defining this as a person asking for this for gender issues (Not wanting to be male - and could be a step in M2F or just M2E) Elective might also be a person with a very high out of control sex drive or one who just is afraid of what he is going to do.

That said if your saying people with mental illness should be able to do this I respectfully disagree. My understanding is that being mentally ill = lawsuit for any doctor.

Ok, if we are talking a "medical" issue? Such as Orchialgia, then the list of Surgeons is much greater. Here I think all you need is a surgeon from a large hospital that has lots of experience. SOME won't do an orchiectomy for any reason outside of "maybe" cancer. This is (to me) the issue that this goofed up story does us a disservice. It paints a picture of Orchiectomy for ANY reason other then life and death cancer being insane and abnormal.

I know there are another group which I will call the fetish group that I don't mention. Insane? Not always but clearly they have to seek a solution from Dr Kimmel or?

With what "can" happen I hope our friends here won't try the do it yourself approach. Infection, bleeding etc are all too scary when death or serious injury is a real possibility.

Please ! Work with a doctor. If they can't or won't help find a new one. There are professionals out there that can help.
