Bridge Collapse in Minneapolis

For those that asked and those that didn't know I'm in the area also - I'm also ok, I live in the Burbs and don't use that bridge much.

When I heard the news I thought they were talking about the bridge over the Minnesota river and I nearly had a stroke worried my wife went down with it. Thanking God my family and friends are ok...

When I heard the news of this last night, the first thing I thought about were the many folks from the EA that lived in the area. I was very worried that someone from here may have been involved. Thankfully it sounds like everyone here avoided that catastrophe (so far as I know). I feel sorry for those that lost their lives and their families also.

I heard reports today that up to 50 vehicles went into the river when the bridge collapsed. I hope those people got out ok. Also, according to some structural engineers, it was very unusual for the bridge to collapse in that manner. They said that only a section or two should have gone out in a major failure as this, not the entire span. It'll probably be days or weeks before they have an answer, so if any of you that live near there hear anything please post an update here.

And thanks to all those here that sent out messages letting us know you were ok, it is much appreciated.

Well, I do think about bridges falling down when I drive, but, heck, I expect parts of buildings to fall on me when I walk on Broadway in Manhattan. :-\

Yep, the bridge fell down and went boom.

It was one hell of a ride for some and tragic for others, I feel for those families that lost folks. For as many people that were involved the death toll could have been much higher.

For those 2.3 people who might possibly concerned, I did not take a dive from the bridge that went down. I drive for a living, and typically cross this bridge 10-20 times a day. This is so FREAKING unbeleivable. I live a mile from there. I am afraid to walk down to that area - assuming I could even get close. Took an hour to stop shaking after only hearingh it and watching on TV, and answering about 75 calls checking on me, and calling dozens checking on them. Phones are mostly shut down - jammed circuits.

For those who pray please do so. There has to be at least a hundred cars under water, from the look of it. For those who dont pray start doing somethin g please.

Wow! At least the Red Nun is safe. When I heard the news, you were the first one that I thought of - along with all the rest in the local area....

I do not mean to make lite of this, my heart goes out to those that were in this, and the families that have lost love ones. Where I am from LA, SF, stuff like this happens every 10 to 15 years or so, its never fun. When the earth shakes and bridges fall and you know they will, you kind of start to just be glad you and no one you know was in it.

In 1972 LA had a quake, my uncle and his family had to leave there home because a dam was cracked and he was in its path. My grandmother was visiting a friend at the center of the quake, she was in a trailer with an expando unit, it fell and gran had to be rescued by the fire department. She was stuck there for several hours and when I asked her how she was, was she ok, etc. her answer to me was this. "I have lived through many earthquakes but the fireman that rescued me was really cute." She was 87.

I am very thankful that nobody I know was in this latest disaster. From the time of night, traffic, it could have been so much worse.
