TG Woman Guilty in Castration Murder

December 17, Philadelphia) A transgendered woman whose husband died after a crude castration in their trailer home has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

Tammy Felbaum, 43, testified in her own defence. She told the court that she had awoken from a drug-induced sleep to find James Felbaum had castrated himself.

Felbaum was her sixth husband.

"I couldn't believe it," she said.

She testified that she and Felbaum had argued the night before about his alleged infidelity.

She said that when she saw what he had done to himself he said, "Here, don't ever tell me I don't love you again."

The jury bought the prosecution version; that she performed the crude operation on him herself, last February.

Tammy Felbaum had admitted to investigators that she performed a similar operation on herself when she was 21 and later had a sex change operation.

She will be sentenced February 27

Definitely an interesting case. I think she did perform the operation, and it did kill him, so I guess she is guilty. On the other hand, I think most of us can imagine how it came to that (home castration), and the whole thing is just sad. I am sure that it was voluntary on the part of the guy who died. The wierd thing was the death was by choking on vomit (due to painkillers) -- I think the castration part wasn't really the cause. If he had died due to bleeding, it would be more clear cut to me that she had endangered the other guy.

I haven't touched this one yet, that I can recall, but it seems to me that there were more issues going on, what with the pills and trash and all.

The eunuchs I know personally wouldn't have needed so many painkillers. From what I'm being told firsthand, castration done right would warrant perhaps a Demoral at the most. I think there was a definite drug problem, among other things going on. One can't help but wonder if proper medical care, as in voluntary castration without medical issue, were available if this man would still be alive.

When someone undergoes sex reassignment they are then a member of the sex assigned.

Part of the process of undergoing SRS is psychological assesment over a period of time (between 1 and 3 years usually), this assesment serves a couple of purposes, to make sure there is no major mental illness, to make sure that there is a continuous and ongoing need for the person to have SRS and to ensure that the person is able to live effectively as a member of the community in the sex they wish (need) to be assigned.

So following on from that, assuming that she did go through the "Real Life Test" (this is the period when the person is undergoing assesment), and end up having SRS, to make sny sort of suggestion that she is anything but female denies her the fundamental human right of being herself. This is so because to suggest that she is still male denies who she is.

Even if she had not managed to make it through the Real Life Test and have Surgery, or had been aproved for surgery but for whatever reason not been able to have it, as long as she is LIVING as a female then in my opinion she is socially female and warrents our respect by us accepting who she is.

In the interests of peace and harmony, I'll pipe up and say that I am sure there was no offence or insult intended.

It is an unfortunate fact that the English language is markedly gender-biased. (And woe be unto those who percieve their life's purpose as creating such bastard words as 'chairperson', 'congressperson', and 'mailbeing'.)

Personally, I interpreted the phrase "other guy" as meaning the other person at the scene, without necessarily reading into it any gender-preference. To each their own.

Well I am not a "politically correct" man so in my opinion the case above invloves 2 guys. Indeed one of the guys has undergone surgery/gender reassignment etc and under certain jurisdiction that qualify him as "female" yet this is only govern by politics and for me that does not make this man a woman whatever the law might say. I thoroughly respect those who feel they are in the wrong gender and want to change to make them feel comfortable but my belief for me is above politics no matter what the law may try to make it out something that isnt.

If some politicians tells me "the snow is black" I rather find that out myself.

Transsexual In Castration Case Wants New Trial

A transsexual in the US found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in December last year following the death of her husband in a botched home castration wants a new trial.

Tammy Felbaum's attorneys said prosecutors did not present enough evidence to warrant the guilty verdict, WTAE-TV reported.

The trial was held in front of a judge without a jury.

Felbaum's sentencing is scheduled for February 27.

Felbaum claimed her husband had castrated himself in their mobile home when she was asleep to prove to her he would never be unfaithful to her.

Felbaum admitted that she castrated herself when she was 21, before she underwent gender reassignment surgery.

Felbaum's sixth husband died from the effects of painkillers after the operation and choking on his own vomit.

Tammy Felbaum was sentenced to 11 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault. She was also found guilty of reckless endangerment and unauthorised practice of medicine, but did not receive a prison sentence on those charges.
