I believe God is at odds with the people of Iran, or at least, their religion as they practice it.

Vietnam is a complex case. President Truman apparently did not follow the situation. We did fund the French effort. I have read that our contributions to the French post-war economy equaled what the French spent in Indochina. I am not certain that was the case. President Eisenhower set up a puppet government. Kennedy overturned that government.

During the fifties, we overturned the government in Iran, That came back to haunt us.

The simple fact is that they can't be trusted because they don't believe a lie counts if they are lying to a non-muslim. They teach that it is only acceptable to be at peace with non-muslims until they are strong enough to kill non-muslims.

The simple fact is that they can't be trusted because they don't believe a lie counts if they are lying to a non-muslim. They teach that it is only acceptable to be at peace with non-muslims until they are strong enough to kill non-muslims.

The funny thing is, replace Islam with Christianity, Koran with Bible, and none of it loses any meaning whatsoever.

Want to blame the whole for the actions of a few? Fine.

I blame all Christians for those who went out shooting abortion docs. I blame all Christians for those "Good ol' boys" that go out beating up fags and fairies. I blame all Christians for those who somehow think "Thou shalt not kill" only applies to other Christians. I blame all Christians for those who believe just because they go to church on Sunday, they can be complete asses and dicks the rest of the week, screw over whomever they want, and get away with anything because somehow that hour or two makes up for it. I blame all Christians for stifling scientific research into valuable technologies such as stem cells. I blame all Christians for fighting Sex Ed in schools, and not allowing kids to learn about condoms which would prevent STDs and teen pregnancies. I blame all Christians for wanting to take evolution out of schools and insisting some fairytale creation myth be taught with equal weight. I blame all Christians for teaching every bit as much hate, intolerance, and bigotry as any imam ever has.

"But why then aren't 'real' Muslims standing up and speaking out against these people if it isn't the true religion," I hear you ask.

Where was the massive outpouring of 'real' Christians against people like Falwell's rants and attacks on homosexuals? Where are the massive groups of Christians standing up against any of the other outrages above?

I'm more than willing to bet the majority of 'real' Muslims in the US are scared shitless to stand up and proclaim they're proud, peaceful Muslims. And I'm sure most of that fear is from the sheer number of fucking yahoos who have universally condemned an entire culture they know only from watching biased media reports, and are all too willing to lynch first and ask questions later.

I've heard of what I consider to be an amazing show on the airwaves in the Middle East (and available in the US too, I'm given to understand), called Kalam Nawaem. Four women (unveiled, and only one even wearing a head scarf) sitting around talking about issues from female masturbation, to homosexuality, wife beating, even terrorism. (For the record, for, for, against, and against.) This isn't a small show, either. Millions tune in. One of the comments about terroism I loved, in that they are all Muslim, had a Muslim imam on, and they were all saying how terrorism is an evil thing. They hated it was blamed on poverty, they kept mentioning how the Koran forbids suicide, and they were very vocal about their beliefs.

All that from four Muslim women, who are clearly at least listened to (judging by ratings) and who provoke discussion. Maybe there's more room for hope than the warmongers would like to admit?

Salami - Thanks for the post. You have the discernment to know the difference between race and religion and between tolerance and weakness.

It seems that many are trying to compare apples to oranges. Was it wrong for us to kill indians at will? Certainly. Has Christianity done terrible things? Certianly. How the hell does that compare with defending our culture and freedoms from the cult of islam which has sworn to kill all non-believers and impose their religion on the entire world!?!

It's easy to posture and spout moral platitudes because you don't actually have to declare or take a stand and accept the risks involved. Someone wanted to send my post to al jezera. So go ahead. I fear no muslim and welcome the fight as I would rather die standing for what I believe than to bend to the yoke of islam. If they take me on in a stand-up fight, they will lose. The point, that I was trying to make...and obviously failed it miserably, was that all Muslims or all arabs can't be blamed for the acts of a small minority. If we chose the Taylor-Salami ratrionale, then:

• All white people are Klansman or Neo-Nazis

• All U.S. soldiers are murderers

• All Mexican immigranys are illegals

• All men are rapists

Nah, they "all" aren't any of those.

I've read the Holy Koran...it has lots of good ideas in it and it DOESN'T condone the killing of the innocent, children or harming nature.

More innocent people were tortured by Christians in history than by followers of Islam... yet I chose to be a Christian.
