Castration alone is often a very good compromise - as well as being the only available "treatment" for MtF's throughout the recorded history - for many transsexuals, as it offers a much needed relief from a variety of masculine characteristics, and often results in a more feminine appearance with time. Castration has also been associated with a relatively high rate of successfull rehabilitation, generally improved behavior and increased socialization in criminals and mentally unstable/challenged individuals (except those with damaged brains), as observed across a wide range of mental and other detainment institutions in Europe & US, where castration was or continues to be practiced upon.

At this point Jenniffer Spencer's needs are medical. Her situation may have started as a GID or whatever label society wants to put on it, but at this point it is a medical problem. She was offered testosterone, which has to make you wonder about how competent the people in charge of her medical care are.

As she is serving a 10 year sentence, withholding treatment until her release would significantly raises her risk of osteoporosis. If they were willing to offer her TRT then obviously money is not the issue.

Personally, I don't see a problem with her receiving estrogen treatment. Just as long as she's not kept with the males. That'd be a disaster waiting to happen.

Whereas I resent that prisoners get free medications and medical treatment and I do not...I don't see that as a viable reason for this woman to be denied medication.

Yeah, but estrogen treatment has also been shown to have a similar effect. If she wants estrogen, give her the estrogen. Either way, it's going to cost the taxpayers. If she doesn't get the estrogen, she could very well face medical problems due to hypogonadism.

Either put her in with the women or put her in solitary, because being castrated, once she goes in estrogen, she'll probably start to feminize quickly.

and the powers that be, wasted over 80.000 dollars in lawyers, studies ect to deny a prisoner SRS, if they would have just had it done, and not made such a production out the issue, both sides would have came out ahead, instead, the money got wasted, and the person trying to get the SRS, is still stuck,

never under estimate government arrogance and stupidity,

Well to me it seems like the best option would be for Jennifer to be released on compassionate grounds. 10 years seems like a pretty drastic sentence for the offenses he/she committed. I expect that her various mental and TG problems might have motivated the escape attempt. Also, the authorities seem to have missed a point here. After the first castration attempt how did she come into possession of another razor blade?? or if the same one why was it not taken away. Perhaps the authorities encouraged the completion of the castration expecting a calmer inmate?? In the circumstances I would expect that Jennifer would not be safe in any prison environment.

On the issue of hormone therapy either testosterone or estrogen what is the difference?? Why not let the inmate decide which is proper for him/her and just get on with it. Either way the $$$'s will be similar and no legal costs involved. You might expect something like this in the Bible Belt on religious grounds but in Idaho???? It looks like plain bastardry to me
