It would be remiss of me especially during this month, which is fast coming to an end, to not once again bring remembrance to an event which many consider the beginning of the modern gay movement. However, that is not to say that all gays and bi's are all involved in any organized movement or a part of the mythical gay agenda. The only agenda or movement that I personally adhere to is the right that all people be accepted and judged as individuals. To me, sexual orientation, skin color, ethnicity, financial status, none of these should be basis to accept or reject, to discriminate or grant special privileges, to judge or not to judge.
But the events that transpired 38 years has had an impact on where the community is today. The impact perhaps is more widely felt here in the US of A and Canada than elsewhere, but still has an impact. Those events which are said to stem from mourners who attended the funeral of the late, great gay icon, Judy Garland. From those events the idea and the practice of Gay Pride, the parades, the organizations gave rise and have actively sought acceptance. We are not all united with one purpose or agenda. We do not all espouse the same political or social philosophies. We are as varied as the society at large. We are as alike as the society at large. We are as different as the society at large.
But Stonewall was a turning point.
For those of us in the heartland of the US of A, those events in June of 1969 really had little to no impact for years and years. In fact for some of us, we never really had an epiphany from those events, but still the changes that have occurred and are occurring both in the US of A and around the world have some roots in those events.
For a full detail from an eyewitness perspective of those events, those 3 days in June of 1969 follow this link:

I am sure it will be illuminating and interesting to most of us.

Re: Beginnings of the Modern Gay Movement
Thanks. I completely missed seeing these events, but gay men were those who saved my life the year before. The plates move and many of us never noticed.

Re: Beginnings of the Modern Gay Movement
How far we have come, here in Canada in 1969 "Homosexuality" was still listed as a psychiatric disorder.
lets hope that it will not take another stonewall to help eunuchs and those who desire to be eunuchs gain acceptance and tollerance in our societies
