Castration questions. Effects.

Post by eunuchwannabe1 (imported) »

Hi guys, I am 22 and would like to get surgically castrated due to sexual frustration for many years. I don't like the effects of testosterone on my mind. I am tired of pornography and lust. I hate feeling horny all the time. Also, I think testosterone tends to make me get angry over every little thing. I feel way too aggressive and moody all the time. I am hoping castration will cleanse my body.

I have some (a lot of) questions. Thanks to anyone that can help. Sorry if any of these questions sounds silly. I don't know where else to go. :-\

1)Will Castration alter my voice? I am afraid of this.

2)What are the effects on hair? (Androgenic alopecia aka Male Pattern Baldness). I have heard that it won't regrow lost hair, but will instead prevent further fall out. Is this true? Do castrated men ever go bald after the surgery?

3)I have heard castration can cause heart problems. Is this true? And how so?

4)Does castration cause acne or any other dermatological problem?

5)Does castration cause gynecomastia? This scares me.

6)How much weight do you gain after castration? Do you become heavier? Will excercise help prevent this?

7)Do you feel peace of mind after castration? (Less aggression, moodiness, anxiety, etc.)

8)I am slender in build already, but will castration take away muscle? If so, to what extent? Will I become as weak as an elderly man?

9)What is the effect on body hair? Will I lose my beard or chest hair?

10)Where can I go to have this done? Should I go to my local GP to ask for advice? Do many surgeons do this? Or only a few? Can I get it done in a hospital?

Hi :) I am also 22, and I was surgically castrated at age 20.

I understand your reasons for wanting to be castrated. They are common reasons to desire castration, and they were among my own. But one thing that I didn't do that I would highly recommend you do is to try chemical castration first. In my opinion it is foolish to be castrated when you have no idea at all how you will react to it (yes, I was foolish :) ).

Chemical castration is available online, and occasionally you will find a doctor willing to prescribe it. Please do not have surgery before you try it. If it turns out castration is not what you wanted, there is no way to go back ever once you have them cut off. Castration will be your life forever, like it or not. And since you'll have little to no libido, it is no fantasy. And HRT is by no means anything like natural T as I have learned all too well.

With chemical castration, all you have to do is stop taking the meds if you change your mind :)

I'll try to answer your questions:

1. No, or at least not to any noticeable degree.

2. Castrated men can and have gone bald after the surgery, but it is extremely rare. Your genetic predispotion to baldness (if you even have one) would have to make you unbelieveably sensitive to the small amount of DHT produced by your adrenals. Chances are that if you are castrated and don't take T, you will not go bald.

3. Some studies say castration lowers the risk of heart diease, others say it raises the risk. No one knows for sure, even though both sides insist they are correct.

4. Castration is actually more likely to cure acne (not sure of effects on other dermatological problems). There may be some acne with the fluctuation in hormone levels at first, but in the long-term acne should become less of an issue.

5. Yes. It depends on your own genetic sensitivity to this condition. Some people will develop large breasts with only the lack of T, whereas others will need high doses of E to get minimal development.

6. I personally gained 30 pounds, all fat. Some weight gain is likely. Just how much depends on age, genetics, and lifestyle. Older people are likely to gain more, and you will likely gain more as you age than you would have otherwise. Exercise and eating right can limit the weight gain. Muscle mass will almost certainly decrease.

7. I was never an angry or aggressive person, so no changes to experience there. The main emotional change I noticed was an increased ability to cry, which I like very much.

8. See my answer to number 6. Muscle mass will almost certainly decrease, even if you have little to begin with. Resistance training may limit the decrease, although it will not eliminate it. You will no longer have the potential to bulk up by lifting weights. Over time your muscle mass will decrease to the amount that could be expected for a female your age with a similar lifestyle. Aside from the natural weakness that occurs with aging, you will likely become even weaker with age as a eunuch. Energy loss is a common short and long-term complaint.

9. Most people will say that you don't lose beard hair, but most people are cut at an older age. At my age I noticed a reasonable decrease in beard growth, although there was still some growth. The growth I did have was slow and fine. I did lose nearly all body hair.

10. It's possible, but unlikely, that your GP will do this for you. Personally I would not say anything as you risk it being written in your records and you being labelled as mentally ill. But it's up to you. I went to the only surgeon in the US who will perform the surgery on demand with minimal questions asked. Voluntary castration is not accepted by the medical profession and you are unlikely to find other doctors who will do it for you.

I wish you the best and hope you find a solution that works for you. Don't hesitate to send me a message if you have any questions :)

Plix, thankyou so much for taking the time to give me such detailed, informative answers. I really appreciate it. You have helped me so much!

I think you are right, I will look into chemical castration first, and try that for a good while to see how I react.

Thanks again!

First of all welcome to the zoo. If you go to this link I think all or most of your questions will be answered. http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=10168

Surgical castration is not easy to come by unless you go to Dr. Kimmel in PA. I started a thread about him here: http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=7385

There is a lot of info here at EA. There are many that have gone down the road you wish to travel. One thing that I and almost everyone here will advise you to do is try the chemical castration method first. I also recommend that you definitely talk to your GP about this. You may feel embarrassed telling him or her that you want to be castrated, but I'm sure they have heard stranger things. There are many ways of dealing with your problems without getting too drastic. In your Bio, you state that you are straight. If so, you really need to consider what castration really means. You will never be able to be a father and probably not a husband either. The feelings you are having are very natural. They were given to you so you would find a good woman and have a family. If you have no interest in that, then maybe castration would help you. Just remember it is very permanent, there is no going back. This would be one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Being a eunuch is not all a bed of roses. It has been a blessing for many, but it has also been a hell for others. You have come to the right place to find the answers, they are all here somewhere. I can't answer them myself as my situation is different than your's. I am a balless man and take testosterone so I don't get the negative aspects of castration, but have the pleasure of not having the discomfort of having testicles.

Please be careful in what you do, you only have one shot at this and you are still young. I'm an old guy that has had his family so what I got rid of was not that important to me any more.

It can be a real relief for some to just lower the T levels. Something like a Depo Provera injection once a month did wonders for me. You can still get an erection but have to work long and hard to orgasm. You may wear your partner out before u orgasm! My girlfriend loved it... If you feel out of control and you are just tired of being fixated on sex, 40 mg of prozac($4 @ wal-mart) can really take the edge off too. Listen to the others about going the chemical route before getting the cut. Some people deeply regret it and never recover from the loss.

I generally concur with all I have read above. I am and will stay chemically castrated for a while longer (until surgery next year). I have gained about 5% weight and each individual can control that aspect pretty well. My T level of 80 is just about where surgery will put you so I think my experience is appropriate.

Paxil has a huge effect on me. 40 mg and no more orgasms. My wife loves it. At first she would encourage me, stroking my cock untill I was sore, than joke about my inability to cum. She would tell me about how much her boyfriend cums inside her and tease me about not being able to get off.

I gradully started haveing erection difficulty and reduced drive. She likes the fact that I can not get it up or keep it up at times. She has talked to her girlfriends about it right in front of me, and suggested it for thier husbands.

Eunuchwannabe1 et al,

I will add a few remarks to this thread. One of the most important things I will emphasize is that there is no one right answer for everyone. We are all individuals. The other thing is that anything you do should be done with a lot of thought beforehand.

I first started taking hormones in 1979 and for more than 20 years I have been what you would call a chemically castrated eunuch. For me, it was, and is, a good alternative. You asked several questions that I will briefly touch upon. Castration will not alter your voice if you have it done as an adult. I have virtually no hair on my legs, but some on my upper body. At the ripe young age of 73, I have virtually a full head of hair with no gray to speak of. Part of that is certainly genetic. I have always been led to understand that castration is good for your heart, but there are some who disagree with this. I have never had any heart problems, but again, neither do heart problems run in my family. The route I took, where I took estrogen, did cause some gynecomastia, but many men have bigger breasts than I do and have never taken any hormones. As it stands, that is not a problem for me in everyday life. I have what you would call a 42-A.

Weight gain is always a result of diet vs. exercise. I know many post-op transsexuals with good figures and plenty of normal old men and women with a weight problem. Eat right and get plenty of exercise for a good figure.

I will answer your question on where to get it done as I move along. While it is quite true that you can order almost any hormone medication on line, I strongly advise you to go to a doctor who is skilled in this particular branch of medicine. It may take some looking. Generally you are looking for a person who works a lot with people in the transgender community. One place where you may pick up a name is at a church that caters to the gay/transgender community such as the Metropolitan Community Church or some United Churches of Christ (not to be confused with the Church of Christ). You can’t lose anything by simply making a few phone calls. As one person put it on this board, they have likely heard stranger stories than this.

Once you locate a suitable doctor, I suggest going slow. Many people on this board seem to want instant results and will take large doses of Androcur or something similar. What you are looking for in the end is good health along with becoming a eunuch. Up to a point with chemical castration, you can stop and revert back to your original state. After a point, the effects are irreversible. Going slow puts a minimum stress on your body and in the end will produce the effect of being a eunuch leaving options open along the way.

After my first wife died in 1993, I seriously considered surgical castration. The doctor I was seeing for hormones at the time knew a surgeon I could go to. This is another advantage of working with a good doctor with good connections in the community. I finally decided that for me the chemical route was best. For one thing, why remove a perfectly functional organ of your body only to turn around and then take additional hormones? I will certainly agree, however, that at times I wish I could look down between my legs and see myself devoid of testicles. Personal decision.

I might throw in that sexual interests vary among people in this community. Without getting into a lot of detail, my sex life improved significantly after I became a eunuch. While it is true that I have not had sexual intercourse in more than 20 years, I enjoy good sex. I will also quickly add that many women are very attracted to eunuchs and finding a good partner is most doable. My present wife and I have a good sex life as well.

Hope this helps.
