I'm doing an essay with castration as the main focal point.

Even with a list of very concentrated articles and such, I'm finding no luck in getting the straight facts on it, from procedures and methods to success rates and recovery periods.

Information on HRT and other therapies and tx is greatly appreciated, if you can offer any.

However, as this is to be a persuasive kind of essay, I would rather not use personal anecdotes, but rather find factorial kinds of websites?

I apologize in advance if I misplaced this or anything, I just figured that, well, EA would be a pretty good place to find some people with these kinds of smarts.

Perhaps you can look up the different chemicals used in Medical books and talk about side effects both pro and con. Also, look up castration of animals on farms then translate that into humans. Eunuchs in history would also be a good source of info...bible quotes, in Asia etc... If you doing a thesis then you should also talk about forced castration of males through history like in the forbidden palace in china, roman castration of slaves, also how Europeans castrated boys to save there voices. You should also talk about how Hitler and the Nazis forcibly castrated less then desired men. In the news 3 or 4 months ago there was a true story of a group of men that got arrested (and sent to jail) for castrating other men, and how they came from as far away as Brazil to willingly get castrated... i sure there is mention of this someplace in the archives also try Google news search for this story.

From your profile, I see that you are "Bi," and that you dislike the penis & testicles. From this I gather you are writing a "persuasive" article which would encourage castration or that would advocate the benefits of castration. You will find that many of us (eunuchs) believe that castration can be a great benefit for society in general. There is a lot of great information on this website, and I believe you will find more information about castration here, then anywhere else. In fact, since castration is considered "taboo" in the medical community (except perhaps to slow the growth of prostate cancer) the personal information in the eunuch community is better and more reliable, in my opinion, more accurate. So if you want the "straight facts" there's no better place. Who can tell you more about castration then those who have been castrated. So ask away! Hash

I was told I was a bit vague, and from your questions I figure I should be a bit more elaborate in the details.

I was told to write a persuasive essay on any topic whatsoever, so to make things fun I decided I would base it on why the US should mandate castration for boys (I never really decided on a set age, but I guess 12 is as good as any?) in regards to overpopulation.

While the topic actually did come out of some femi-nazi ballbusting stories, I really want to do this right, using straight facts and such. So, what I really need to know is:

*Different types of castration (and by that I mean the removal of the testes). I know there is surgery (if I can have any firsthand descriptions of the process?) and chemical castration (don't know much about that).

*Effects (good or not) of castration.

*How long after castration does it take for total sterility to set in?

*With HRT, does a guy once more become sterile, or is he still "shooting blanks" (semen, no sperm)?

Basically I am comparing castration as a form of birth control compared to others, which do NOT work 100% effectively. Again, thank you so much for helping out-- it is greatly appreciated!

O.K., that helps – a persuasive essay, not a factual exposition of the history and/or side effects of human castration. I was prepared to send you my 100+ item bibliography on the history of eunuchs and castrati. I don't think you need that list.

You need to come up with a thesis that will allow you to both shock and persuade your audience.

My favorite model (and my favorite essay of all time) is Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal. It was so well written, and so well argued, that many at the time took him very seriously and were horrified by the thoughts that he expounded. Swift's essay made an important impact on English attitudes toward, and treatment of, the Irish.

I could see a Swiftian essay on the solution to the urban problem of gangs and grafitti. From animal analogues, we know very well how to stop territorial behavior with our puppydogs and pussycats. Neutered males are far less aggressive and are far less likely to mark their territories. The same certainly ought to hold true for young gang members....

Another possibility is the one that you've alluded to – population control in an overcrowded world. This would take more effort on how to choose the correct population to remove from the breeding pool, though I suspect that you are up to the task. Some reading on the Italian castrati would probably be in order as part of your preparation.

Others here may come up with some additional directions that you might explore before you write your essay. These are only the two that flashed into my mind immediately. The "gangs and grafitti" theme is one that I even began work on when my local paper had a long series of articles on gang activity, and the letters to the editor column blossomed with items that were no less logical and practical, and that were almost as draconian.

Castration before puberty produces a very different result than castrating a functional adult.

Here's my suggestion (for what its worth): All anti-social or violent criminals are to be castrated, whether adults or children. Historical context - Japan in the Shogun era - all violent criminals were executed (the ultimate castration) along with their wives and children. This was done to prevent future crime by eliminating the "criminal gene" from the general population. It seems to have worked as Japan today has a very low murder rate.

I'd like Jesus' opinion on this... as I may be all wet....

If you want to shock people then proposing a Eugenics program is the way to go. Castration would allow the resulting eunuchs to be used for forced labor, etc. (I think that has been tried before somewhere in History....)

Don't let anyone fool you. When it comes to women (feminists included) they really DO want sex after all. --Every bit as much as the men but only in a different way and most of them WILL cue you in that what they want is a REAL man. Because what most of them are generally thrilled about is taking on someone bigger than themselves (physically, socially, and financially), hunting them down, luring them in with charm and beauty, and then "training" them, --brutes that they are. Afterwards they are in some manner or form boasting and bragging about their catch in the same way that men will do about their buxomy babe. If you bother to observe any Feminists in their actual everyday lives and relationships you may find that they (despite any rhetoric they may have to the contrary) are actually busy repeating the same pattern as above due to biological forces and urges beyond their control.
