Our Long Nightmare
David Letterman noted last night, "That our long nightmare is over. Paris Hilton is out of jail."

Presumably the "nightmare" is the thought that if there weren't any celebrities behaving badly he'd have to fall back on politicians behaving badly, which is likely to embarass the sponsors....
For the rest of us it's more like respite care.....

Re: Our Long Nightmare
This just proves again that the two party system works.
The rich party cries and goes home,
The rest of us buck it up and do our time.

Well, they took her back to jail, kicking & screaming...
It couldn't happen to a more deserving person.

What a travestity of justice. How dare the Los Angeles legal system treat a young, sexy Paris Hilton the same as ordinary lawbreakers.
We all know actors, singers and miscellaneous celebrities are special. They don't eat or live like we do. They're the closest thing we have on earth to living gods.
We should be worshipping the very ground they walk on.
Let Paris go home to her luxurious bungalow and she might even snub us if we ever see her in person. We'd like that.
Yes, my friends, it's true. Three years of caregiving has rotted my brain. You see the disasterous results.

Re: Our Long Nightmare
In my quarter century of work as a probation officer whose domain consisted mostly of dealing with intoxicated driving offenders, I saw damm few offenders serve any jail time, no matter how badly they violated probation. The court is exacting a much high standard from Miss Hilton (who as not convicted of intoxicated driving) than what I saw. I don’t know the situation in California, but I wonder how many people caught driving on a suspended license get the sentence the court exacted on that young woman.
Frankly, speeding drivers may be the worst killers. Why don’t legislators define severe sentences for speeders with ample jail time included? A week in jail for every mile per hour over the speed limit might make a good beginnning.
In Miss Hitlon's case, someone needs to review how this judge handles similar cases.

I agree completely. Let Paris Hilton go on the condition that she blow every Eunuch Archive board member, moderators and we site ops as well.
Since Kristoff probably wouldn't be interested, I'll gladly take two blows from her.

Re: Our Long Nightmare
The actual sequence goes something like this. On a night in the first week of September in 2006, Ms. Hilton was driving erratically, apparently was speeding, and was stopped by a Los Angeles police officer. She took a breathalyzer test, registered .08 blood alcohol (the minimum for intoxication) and was arrested at the scene. In January of this year, she entered a plea of no contest to the charge, and was given a sentence of three years' probation, along with fines which totaled something like $1500. She had pleaded not guilty to two DUI charges the week before her sentencing--not sure what incident or incidents the earlier charges related to. I presume her license was suspended as part of a plea agreement.
She was then stopped by L.A. police on February 27 of this year while driving at night, speeding, with her headlights off. It was found that she was driving with a suspended license, and her vehicle, a $190,000 Bentley, was impounded. Driving with a suspended license was a violation of the conditions of her probation agreement. On May 4 of this year, she appeared in court and was sentenced to 45 days of incarceration, for repeatedly driving with a suspended license, in violation of the probation agreement. She was ordered to report to the correctional institution on June 3, which she did.
On the night she was arrested for DUI, there were two other people in the car, both of whom had driver's licenses and were cold sober, and who could have been driving--i.e., there was no reason for Ms. Hilton to be driving the vehicle at the time she was stopped by the police.
For whatever it's worth, I have read that it is common knowledge in Los Angeles, that she has been driving drunk all over West Los Angeles for years, and just didn't get caught until last September. A breathalyzer test of .08 means she wasn't particularly drunk at the time she was arrested, but the figure is nevertheless above the allowable limit. A lot of us would figure we were still cold sober at a reading of .08, but apparently the alcohol did affect her driving.
Interesting to contrast her behavior on being incarcerated with that of Martha Stewart, whose conviction was questionable and still might be overturned. Martha took the sentencing gracefully, served her time with good behavior, and generally acted like a responsible citizen. Paris Hilton acted like a spoiled brat, both in court and in the jailhouse.
On a historical note, in the late 1940's or early 1950's, the actress Frances Farmer was stopped by police for a minor traffic violation. She wound up in jail, developed psychological problems, and spent most of the remainder of her life in and out of psychiatric institutions. The arrest pretty much ended her career, and thoroughly messed her up.

I think Paris Hilton already had psychological problems.
That reminds me, has anybody seen Britney Spears lately? I really enjoyed seeing her shaved pussy....
