New compuer, old periferal

Post by HairyHarry (imported) »

Having recently upgraded my computer from 32bit to 64bit, both on XP Pro, I find that my 32bit scanner (Canon LiDE50) has incompatible software. Is it possible to overcome this, or do I have to replace the scanner.

Unless Canon offers a 64 bit driver for your scanner you're basically screwed and have to buy a new one. Go to their web site and see if a new driver is available. This is one of the main reasons I have not upgraded to the 64 bit operating system yet.

My PC is ready to handle the 64 bit XP and Vista, but until I can get the drivers for my printer and scanner I'm not going to upgrade just yet. It would be just too expensive for me right now and I depend a lot on those two items. Pehaps they may release new drivers in the comming year.

if you have installed the software then click on start then across into prgrames and then into the one you want instead of left click right click on it go down the options to properties then go to the compatibilty tab at top

i dont know 64bit but there might be options there for compatiblity setings to force the pc to use it in 32 bit mode

Don't hold your breath on 64-bit drivers for old devices. For instance, the PC at work - ran the Windows Vista upgrade adviser on it.

Scanner, no

Printer, no

Video card, no

Multimedia card reader, no ...

And a search for drivers online from the makers, for 64-bit compatibility?

None.
