Caligula?
I haven't seen the uncut movie yet and I know there is a castration scene, but what is shown?

Re: Caligula?
Not very much. Only a lot of screaming and some knife play. It is not real of course. Does anyone know what Caligula means? It was his nickname not his real name. He got it when he was a little boy.

Little Boot.
Given by his father's army for the child size military sandles he wore.
Gotot, as in "Waiting for Godot" means the same.

Re: Caligula?
Does anyone know his real name? As with many romans, he had more that one or two names. Of course one of them was Cæsar. What were the others.
Ave Cæsar. Moratiri te salutamus.

Re: Caligula?
The scene is not really all that exciting. It's dark, the soldier who gets cut is already beaten pretty much to death, and then Caligula has the deed done. The severed bits are then thrown to the dogs, who eat them. The soldier dies, and Caligula goes on his merry way. The dogs seemed happy.

Re: Caligula?
It’s scene 21 of the unrated DVD, at around 1'40". Proculus (the soldier whom Caligula buggered at his wedding, in scene 18) is ordered to be killed slowly because, as Caligula tells him, he’s honest and therefore a bad Roman. Caligula wants to learn what Proculus feels as he dies but the torturer, who has been slicing Proculus about the torso with a sword (and a thrusting gladius, at that, which seems to me to be a poor choice for making fine cuts) incompetently stabs him in the heart and kills him. One of the two women accompanying Caligula pisses on the body of Proculus. (She, by the way, like all the other women in the film has pubic hair though upper-class women of the time usually plucked all their pubes.) Caligula tells the torturer to cut “them” off and send them to Livia, the wife of Proculus. He and the women leave. The torturer is seen beginning to sever the end of the penis, and he hands the bleeding tip to Longinus, the aide of Caligula, who throws it to the dogs; he then orders the torturer to remove the rest of the genitals and send them to Livia.

Moratiri te salutamus.
Morituri te salutemus, surely. We who are about to die salute you.
(Unless you mean Moraturi which means we who are about to delay.)

I rather like the "we who are about to delay" version. --FLO--
