Downtime as listed on the Main Page

Post by Paolo »

Right now, as of 3:30 PM USA EST DST - whatever the hell time it is - who f*ckin' knows anymore here?! ... The Archive seems to be running again.

However, BME's main site, www.bmezine.com is still down.:-\

I was chatting with the Nun last night around midnight when we noticed that something was definitely wrong!🚬

As IE posted on the main page, something seems to have gone wrong with the service that tells your PC where to find the page, and it would seems that all parts of BME, not just the Archive, were/are affected.

I'm sure we'll get a further update when and if IE can find out exactly what happened. I have the utmost confidence in him!

As posted by Shannon on his page, yes it was a nameserver problem.

It appears a nameserver got moved around, throwing off the BME servers, where we share space. As a result nobody could get through, but the servers themselves were still up.

At any rate, the problem has been fixed, apparently as of a couple hours ago. However, due to the way the internet operates, the fix might take some time to propagate through to everybody. Slowly though, things will come back up.

It's always wise to keep an extra roll of quarters by the machine just in case.

We should all just be thankful their servers aren't running on Windows. It would have taken weeks to fix.
