Side effect timeline?

Post by f650cs (imported) »

I have made the following plan:

8 weeks: 2 x 50 mg Androcur and 1 x 20 mg Tamoxifen. Possibly increase to 2 x 100 of Androcur.

I expect reduced sex drive and loss of erections from the Androcur to start at 2 to 3 weeks; with total loss of libido because of the Tamoxifen.

The ultimate goal is like others. The loss of sex drive and the ability to have sex. I want to test the results of chemical castration before making a long term commitment to the point that it makes any permanent changes to the body. I am not even 100% sure I want to stop having sex – I love orgasms – that is why I am wanting to add the tamoxifen – so I won’t even want sex. Also, I am not looking for short term or long term shrinkage of the penis or testicles – but know this could be a long term side effect.

I believe and hope I am fully aware of the side effects but I cannot find the answers as to when they take effect. I know you are not medical professionals, but you might know the answer to these questions.

1. When should I expect muscle fatigue? i.e. reduced ability for 45 min run or workout.

2. How soon should I expect to suffer lack of energy? i.e. become lazy and not want to move from the couch.

3. How soon will my concentration be affected? i.e. the ability to think about and solve detailed problems.

4. Will any of these be accelerated with the Tamoxifen? When shoud I expect the loss of the drive for sex?

5. Should I wait to start the Tamoxifen until I have been on the Androcur for 2 weeks?

6. I am not looking for shrinkage of my penis or testicles. Do you think they will return to normal after 4 to 8 weeks?

History of myself:

Bipolar with excessive sex drive during mania. During these times I forget about work and spend days and weeks looking for and having sex. I am embarrassed to even mention how many times a day I can hookup. I am in a gay relationship for 10 years and I am putting me and my partner at risk for every STD and HIV. Also I own my own small business – and my ability to maintain it is curtailed during these crazy periods of my life. This is why I am worried about the concentration aspect.

My Pdoc and I have discussed my sex drive and his answer is to increase other drugs during these periods. I am tired of increasing and making changes to these drugs –and am looking for a different solution.

Good news is that because of my drugs I take for bipolar – I get my blood tested regularly for things like liver and kidney functions. I have searched the net and have not found any issues with the above drugs and my current regiment – which is a good.

I welcome any other comments.

Thank you.

Regular stretching routines can prevent penis shrinkage, though I think you may be screwed as far as testicle shrinkage goes. Like maybe try to achieve a full-fledged erection every day or whatever and that should help keep it from shrinking.

One of my goals is to stop getting erections for these 6 to 8 weeks. Should I still attempt to get an erection anyway? Maybe change to 6 weeks instead of 8? I thought it was pretty impossible to get aroused and hard when using tamoxifen? I can handle the testicle shrinkage, even if long term.

Seems like most people I talked with take 50mg of androcur in the morning and 50mg at night. Only take the lowest dose that works for you. Taking more is not always the best. You can not shut down your balls any more then once. Taking more then needed is harder on your liver to say the least.

The dose of androcur will depend on the person. I know of people that had full effect at only 50mg a day Others needed 200mg a day. What little I read about Tamoxifen, it is not going to do much for you. It looks like a drug for breast cancer and interferes with the activity of estrogen

The amount of sex drive loss will vary with each person. I personally know guys that have been castrated for several years and still have a desire for sex. Others have a greatly reduced sex drive. The brain is a very powerful organ in the sex drive. It can have a desire with out any sex hormones. Just think about a baby boy and the erections he gets often before he pisses. There will be penis shrinkage with out testosterone in your system. (The adrenal gland does produce some testosterone.) You will get ball shrinkage while on castration drugs. The effects become more permanent the longer on the drug or being castrated.

This like all effects of castration this will vary. No matter how much you work out you will loose muscle mass and strength when testosterone is removed from the body.

This like all effects of castration this will vary. There are many factors when it comes to the brain and hormones. They control many aspects of your life. All interrelated no less. Some people feel they can concentrate better once castrated for they are not as easy distracted at work.

I wonder if this is even a good choice to use.

All that I have read and talked to people the effects of androcur should be reversible. The longer on the drug the longer it will take to be what you were. Some female hormones do permanent damage over time.

Blood monitoring is very important when you are making changes on how your body will behave. There are drugs that can decrease the sex drive with out stopping testosterone. It would be very smart to have your present testosterone levels tested before start. I though I was fully shut down but the blood test should I was not fully. I had to increase my dose of androcur.

Hope this helps a little. I wish you the very best in your quest for reduced sex drive.

Thank you for such a detailed response.

I agree with you and will start the Androcur at 2 x 50 per day. I would only increase that after 4 to 6 weeks if my body tells me I need to increase.

I looked into Tamoxifen after reading such posts as

I wanted to avoid nipple pain and breast growth and get the benefits this might provide.

I can tell you I have been on 2x 50 of Androcur for 3 months. I noticed a change almost instant with my sex drive. I am married and my wife loves it. I am committed to keeping her happy sexually and not my self. As for erections, I still get a very slight erection when I am aroused but it takes a great deal to get me that way.
