How about a photo gallery on these forums for photos of members? :D I think that'd be kind of cool.

Members are welcome to post their own pic as an avatar. Otherwise, we have no plans to host photos again.

The problem with hosting photos, even allowing them to be pulled in with hotlinking, is that people tend to abuse it.

There are plenty of photo hosting sites out there, though.

Tanglog, don't be sour about Paolo's reply. Your avatar is a very nice illustration and Paolo has been 'with the force' for some time. Very few regular users would want their own photos posted. We read the site for people's views not to see their mugs (UK slang for face). If users use Private Messaging here and become very friendly, or use the Chatroom then they have the personal and private option to send the other person their photo but in this world of cyberspace,

I would urge people to be cautious about this. Power on this site is in words and avatars are just a small entertainment and I think that is the way it should always be. I hope this explains my opinion to you in a friendly manner.

I agree with tanglog, and am using a partial photo of myself in avatar but would change it to face picture without fear if there was room on a photo gallery of some sort, why not leave it up to the individual, its nice for me to see a photo of the person responsibe for some of these interesting posts in that it kind of fleshes out the whole experience and gives the written words some legs to stand on, but just one person's opinion. Must say however, both tanglog and paolo's avatars are two of the coolest around.

I wasn't trying to be sour, I was just kidding. :D

I ganked that illustration from Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain. Decent book.

I just wanted to thank you tanglog for explaining about your avatar. It is very handsome. Is the image from a woodblock reproduction? It is very well chosen and looks great on the site.

I don't think they're from woodblock, but the book doesn't really specify. Shakti Gawain credits Rainbow Canyon and Lorena Laforest Bass "for your beautiful artwork and beautiful friendship."

I've had this book laying around since I was a kid and I've always really loved the artwork.
