Paxil stops orgasm
It suprises me that Paxil is not mentioned as an option here. My counselor started me on a heavy dose last year and within a few days it caused total anorgasmia ( I can no longer cum).
I had problems with sexual addiction, phone sex and out of control masterbation. This came to a head with my wife (large ammounts of money spent on the addiction being the main problem), and she insisted I see a woman therapist she heard about from a friend. We have not been having sex for some time, due to problems between us, and she has been seeing other men.
She (the doc) said paxil is often used for premature ejaculation and sex addiction. It seems to effect the muscles that cause you to ejaculate. My body was used to cuming 3-6 times a day and than nothing. My balls were very sore and tender the first week. My wife thught it was very funny as I pushed a shopping cart, hunched over with that ´kicked in the nuts ´ feeling. No mater how excited I got or how hard I masterbated, I could not reach orgasm. This was maddening at first, but my drive and excitement has steadily declined. I understand paxil will continue to lower your drive, as time goes by.
Does anyone now the long term effects of paxil on your sex drive. My wife says the change in me is amazing, and says no way, to any thoughts of reducing the dose. She is very active sexually with her current boyfriend, and states that I just was not meant to have a normal sex life.

Re: Paxil stops orgasm
When I first started treatment for depression, I was put on Paxil. After quite a few months on it I discovered the same dirty little secret about it. With prolonged use, Paxil can cause you to not only to produce a dry orgasm but can even make erection difficult if not impossible. I requested a change in medication thereafter.

Re: Paxil stops orgasm
Had some problems a couple yrs ago, with several deaths in the family, dealing with others in the
family in the aftermath, along with a HR kiddie where my wife worked that was harrassing her and
her doctors over a 8month span,
my nerves were shot,to say the least, and my doc put me on cymbalta, while it helped me alot, and I
enjoyed it while I was on it,,, it litterally killed my sex life inside of 2wks, you can go and go, till you
collapse, and just not get there, a rather bizzare feeling at first, then you get used to it, and things
fade,
after about 6 wks, I tapered off of it, everything(sexual function) came back within a week, being completely off of it,
I think its very common side effect of the antidepressants

A good friend of mine used Paxil due to extreme anxiety. It destroyed his sex life and also his marriage. I am told that you cannot stop taking Paxil abruptly but have to be weaned off of it gradually. Nasty stuff!:(

Re: Paxil stops orgasm
No mat
I used to get around that by applying some generous anal stimulation (my old childhood favorite: a carrot. lol...). It used to be that if I couldn't reach orgasm thanks to an SSRI's effect that would solve the problem, though not so with Effexor XR that I'm on now -- this crap has killed my ability to orgasm much more effectively than any of the other 6 or so SSRIs I was on previously.
Though sometimes there'll be a fluke and I'll have no problem at all reaching orgasm, very quickly even. Usually though it is just too difficult and time consuming to even waste my time trying.
I never noticed a decline in actual libido while on SSRI's, just the annoying effect of having a hell of a time reaching orgasm.
urbated, I could not reach orgasm.

Re: Paxil stops orgasm
As a general rule, most (if not all) SSRI's will result in retarded ejaculation. Seems at times like it takes about an hour to get to home plate, if you dont end up wandering through the left field stands.
SSRIs generally will not impair one's sex drive / libido (some have reported that it does, but this is not usual), nor one's ability to attain an erection (it might be slowed down). The only major anti-depressant that does not have this effect is Wellbutrin (aka zyban, generically bupropion), although rare paradoxical effects have been reported (i.e., retarded ejaculation, etc.).
When you know that you want to gain some auto-erotic action, or know you're gonna get the other kind, don't take the prescribed SSRI that particular day, then resume the next day.
NEVER, NEVER abruptly stop taking ANY SSRI. You will generally pay hell in withdrawal syndromes, and they can often be quite painful and distressing, and sometimes long lasting. Paxil and Effexor are notorious for this, even when titrating off slowly.

"
Yes, My wife has pointed out that I no longer get night time erections and it has been awhile since I have had a full ("usable" in her words) erection. I still enjoy doing oral on her and get a partial/short term erection, when we do this. This is all a bit hard to accept as I am only 36, but she says some men are just not able to have a normal sex life, and we can´t go back to what I was doing before. She has brought up the possibility of chemical or surgical castration, saying I might be more content with my situation without testosterone. Most days I do not miss it now and will stay on the paxil for the time being.

Re: Paxil stops orgasm
I have been on Effexor and currently Lexapro. Effexor gave me extreme headaches, so i went off. Both of them greatly reduced my sex drive, and have made climaxing rather difficult. I still wake up with erections, and can still get them but i have to really work at it mentally. I was taking 20mg tablets of lexapro, but gained to much weight to fast so the doctor cut the dose in half. So far so good, but still find it difficult to constrate fully and have applied for disability. As a side line I also suffer from panic attacks 2 to 3 times a week. In one post i did mention anti depressants as a way to suppress sex drive. I still enjoy collection and looking at pictures of nude men.

Re: Paxil stops orgasm
I was on Prozac during my preeunuch days. It would take me three hours to orgasm so I would wait for a day off before attempting release. It did not effect my desires for others or help my sexual addiction.
