Back in the days when we would host safe sex parties (educational not recreational) for the young adults we would talk about oral sex. Condom use was advised but we also talked about not giving oral sex if you have recently brushed your teeth or eaten food that is abrasive such as potato chips. The small abrasions in the gums were an easy entrance for the disease. For oral vaginal sex a dental dam was recommended as a barrier against disease. As Uncle Flo said yes STD's can be transmitted orally but there are safer ways to play.

Alcohol and drugs both reduce inhibitions and impair judgement so they may not practice safe sex even if they know how. You are a good friend for being concerned. Any practice which will block the exchange of body fluids is important.

If a male receiving oral sex wears a condom he is protected from anything in the partners saliva and the partner is protected from anything that might be in his ejaculation or precum. Removing the penis from the mouth before orgasm is not safe because there is usually enough precum to transfer a disease to the person giving the oral stimulation. Also ejaculating on the skin if there are cuts or open sores could be another way for disease to enter. If the skin is intact it will be a good barrier from disease. Seminal fluid can also be harmful to the eyes if it is carrying a disease. The eyes are very aqueous and absorb those diseases quickly. The nostrils are also a good path to the body for diseases. Cumming on someones chest or body is much safer than on their face.

When they are having oral to vaginal sex it is good to use a dental dam. A dental dam can be made from latex and is usually a square of enough inches to cover the area that will be stimulated. Plastic food wraps can be used if nothing else is available. The vaginal fluid can be as risky to the mouth, eyes and nose if it is carrying disease. Again the purpose is to stop the transmission of disease.

There is plenty of skin that can be licked and stimulated without risk of disease and that can be fun. Only in areas where fluids are present do you have to be concerned. Also it is good to look your partner over before you are too far along. Look for sores, any sign of discolored fluid drainage. Some folks can carry disease and be symptom free. The best advice of all is to assume your partner may be carrying something and act accordingly.
