Wouldn't it be great to be able to search the stories by more than just author and title? We categorize the stories, so I would be fun to be able to get a listing of stories that have certain combinations of categories.
I notice that there is no category for forced or voluntary in the archive stories. That seems like a very important distinction to me and I would love to have the forced stories separated out from the voluntary stories somehow.
There seems to be a lot of voluntary stories in the archive and they mostly don't have the kind of edge that I like.
Search archive by category?

Re: Search archive by category?
Yes I agree, I think this would be a great idea!! Most importantly, be able to search purely on one category only, [example, search for stories that are only testicle related, and nothing else] or a mixture of categories...
This would be great! Surprised no one else has made this suggestion...

I think these are great ideas. Write the code that will perform the function, then go through and index all the stories so that the code will work with them. Submit them all to IE for review. He then might think about putting it in. Of course, I cant speak for him. But it might be worth trying...??

"Index all the stories" sounds like a big, tedious task, doesn't it? What exactly does it mean?
I am guessing that the stories are not already in any sort of database, they are just bunch of html files in a directory structure by the first letter of the title. Fortunately, I can see that inside the HTML there are comments which are regularly formed to make it easy to find all the important information about the story, including category.

Be aware that you can use google to get most of the functionality you want already. Just use the site option to restrict google's search.
For example, in the google search bar if you type
search terms site:eunuch.org
you'll get the results of the search applied only to this site. I've bolded the text you add to your regular search. The site: keyword restricts google to only looking at pages in the specified domain. For more refined searches, you can go into the advanced search page on google (click on the "advanced search" label next to the main search box) and then you can easily further restrict your searches with find all these words but exclude those words, etc. type searches.

I find that if I use site:eunuch.org , I get many false hits because it will find messages as well as stories. If I use site:eunuch.org/alpha , I get stories only but I do not know if I am getting all of the stories. (I suspect that I am getting all the stories.)

I agree on the seperation of catagories, but the google idea is not bad, perhaps it would be more user friendly if you put a google search box on the site and limit it to this site?

I like this idea as well (not to mention a search engine would be nice too) plus on the author index, there isn't one for authors whose names start with Q. Such as Quietmalepet. (he has a story here, Amy's Pet project, that I really like and I would like to see his other stories)
