Looking For People In The Uk
Re: Looking For People In The Uk
Instead of everyone telling each other where you are, how about if someone actually got going and organized a Meeting of Members? Someone was starting that some months back, but seems to have dropped the ball. We're having quite a large one this wek in the Minneapolis/St Paul area in the US this week. You can do the same!

Kristoff,
I think the difficulty is that groups such as this tend to attract those who might be described as a 'weirdo'. With Eunuch Central in Minneapolis/ST Paul you have an advantage which does not exist in other areas.
Members may feel safe travelling to meet those connected to Eunuch Central and know to be careful if you start reaching for any power tools, whereas they may not feel safe to travel to meet someone elsewhere.
Conversely, because you, River etc, all know each other, you have the protection of a group, if you do attract someone undesirable.
Whilst there may be some, such as Roger (The Fraj) who are well enough known to form a nucleus and attract a like minded group, but he would be exposing himself to possible danger, so I think that this post is most likely to remain wishful thinking.

We all got started somehow. Someone had to take the chance. Two meet, then a third, a fourth. Build it up. Eunuch Central's crew took a few years to build. It can happen. Public places are good meeting grounds when starting out.
And yes some of us are a bit whacko (takes a bow), but I generally leave my power tools at home.

Re: Looking For People In The Uk
After being lucky enough to be at the Midwest MOM (MUM? LOL) I can only say how wonderful it was meeting everyone. I know that lots of people (both voluntary and involuntary eunuchs) would benefit greatly from a similar experience at a UK MOM. I know it's probably a little forward ... I'm just saying. I guess there would have to be a fair bit of groundwork to start out.
Thinking back, I was lucky enough to know (through email, phone, webcam or previous meets) a lot of people - some for many years - who I managed to meet at the Midwest MOM, so I guess I knew I would be safe. I'm sure that 9 out of 10 random people on EA will turn out to be just some of the most lovely people you could hope to meet.
But I guess like with meeting anyone from any place on the NET there is always some degree of risk. Well, anyway, sorry if I'm just rehashing/mooting more or less exactly what Krister, Colin and already just said LOL. Just thought I'd say
It is definitely a wonderful idea.

Re: Looking For People In The Uk
A UK gathering is long overdue. There has been much talk of organizing one for at least the past two years. There has even been (at least) one gathering that was completely organized with time, place, and contact telephone number. Only the organizer showed up for it. Not a single other person came, despite repeated enthusiastic posts about the prospect of meeting others.
For the FIRST UK gathering, some single person needs to take responsibility and do the organization for it. Whats required is a public place where there will be enough privacy for conversation (and lots of hugs for Thefraj) without worry that outsiders may overhear too much. The location should be convenient to transportation so that members can easily travel to the event.
The London area would probably been the easiest to organize, but many from elsewhere in Britain might find it difficult to attend. Nicholas was in the process of organizing a gathering in Birmingham when he suddenly stopped visiting the Archive. (Does anyone know why?) There was also some talk of a Manchester gathering that seemed to go nowhere.
For whoever here is willing to take the responsibility, a date and place needs to be chosen. The date should be AT LEAST one month out to allow time for others to make plans. The first gathering is likely to be no more than five or six persons growing larger at each subsequent gathering as members post about how much fun theyve had. They might even be in someone's home AFTER a level of trust is established.
Since there are always TROLLS cruising the Archive, the exact location of the gathering should only be made known to those who send a <Private Message> to the organizer requesting details. While the Archive has only 3,300 registered members, about a half million different IP addresses access the Archive every month.
I would be willing to provide advice and support for anyone who is willing to take on the task of organizing a UK-MoM. I expect that Bobbie, who has done such an incredible job of organizing the US gatherings, would also be happy to provide advice.
