WASHINGTON: An American woman recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest person in the world has died at the age of 116.

Elizabeth Bolden died on Monday at a nursing facility in Memphis, her grandson James Bolden told the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

Elizabeth was born on August 15, 1890 and had seven children, 40 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 150 great-great-grandchildren, 220 great-great-great grandchildren and 75 great-great-great-great grandchildren, the newspaper said.

Guinness recognised her as the world's oldest person shortly after her last birthday when Maria Esther de Capovilla of Ecuador died just three weeks short of 117.

The Gerontology Research Group in Los Angeles, which tracks the ages of the world's oldest people, said the title of the oldest living person now goes to Puerto Rico's Emiliano Mercado del Toro, 115.

Family members said Elizabeth suffered a stroke in 2004 and since then had been unable to communicate.

We should all be so lucky, Way to go Elizabeth.

"cayenne facts. I have a teaspoon a day in V8 juice" said my friend - w2nsd when we were discussing DrDay.com review about Cancer on her VHS tape this morning. To Protect the Immune System is a PRIORITY for sure. 150 is a goal for sure. n3rf

Who the hell wants to live that long? Unless one is trying to get back every dime of Social Security that has been paid in.

Well- eunuchs have the capability to learn new things - so thos that arn't - keeps their min closed and never learn. They are too busy in their SELF - extrospection - I guess . I had a small glass of Cyane Peper and V8 yesterday and my whole body tingled for a couple of hours. WOW. N3RF

That's a nice human interest story but it's not accurate.

I'm the world's oldest person. Want proof? Juse ask River, Christina, Aminal or IEunuch..they say I belong to the Jurassic era.

As to my state of being.....I may be decomposing as we speak...if Beethoven can decompose, so can I.

But can you do music? Like LVB? If you can (i.e, Symphony 9), I'll pay homage to your ability, and venerate your years! Course, I see you're only 20, though.

Ninth symphony...not my style..

I prefer the Fifth....speaking for IEunuch and myself, make it a fifth of gin, Bombay Sapphire and tonic on the rocks.

I much prefer the ninth over the fifth, except for Canadian.... Gin & tonic - yeccchhh - sucking on pine cones and toxic berries with stale seven-up. OTOH, among LVB's work, there are several pieces that far surpass the fifth.... Yet a 9th of Canadian would just not be enough....
