Hello, I'm new here.

I've been seriously considering becoming a eunuch for some time now, but have a couple questions that I'd like answered first, the answers to which may delay when it happens. I'll mix in my bio as I think of things to mention.

Basically, I don't like the way my sex drive hijacks my thoughts to girls/sex; even if it doesn't happen every other second, it does happen enough for me to notice and complain. So, I'm considering attempting to acquire anti-androgens in order to undergo a chemical trial before deciding permanently yes or no. I'm considering confiding in my cousin, who's a chiropractor. As of now, I've told noone offline, and only contacted three others online (Sherry Lanina (http://www.geocities.com/sherrylanina/Castration.html), Dr. Spector, and Dr. Kimmel (http://www.felixspector.com/index.htm)). Sherry didn't know the answer to my main question for certain, and neither doctor has responded; anyone know if those emails are valid or not?

My primary question is this: Does anyone know whether or not there's an official age requirement, by law, for someone to be castrated or take anti-androgens in the US? On a similar note, what would the medical community reccommend as a minimum age, assuming there is any difference?

As for relationships, I'm not in one now, and I'd be perfectly happy with a close, platonic relationship. Love does not require sex, and that's something that many people seem to assume that sort of makes me pity them a little bit (is that the right wording? Maybe "depresses me slightly"; I dunno).

Another thing about becoming a eunuch that I like the sound of is the eunuch calm; maybe that'll help curb/eliminate the minor anger issues I've had since grade school. I was (and still am) a social misfit, tending to read or play video games more than interact with others.

The only side effect Sherry listed that I didn't like the sound of was problems with memory and concentration; can anyone confirm/deny this, or calculate/ballpark the odds of this occuring?

Anyone care to guess why the male sex drive is so obsessed with these?

I can't figure it out. All I've got are a few weak guesses:

1) Select the best milk producers for the baby. Kinda makes sense, I guess.

2) Touch 'em to self-test for breast cancer; I guess that would really screw with milk production/fetal survival rate, but that's rare in your average breeding age (particularly long ago, when girls often had their first kids around 13-15), so evolution probably wouldn't have this as a hardwired instinct.

3) Freud was right about men and their mothers.

4) Social programming; it's expected, so we obsess.

I probably just spend too much time thinking about this, but bleh, whatever.

My response to your "primary question" is that I am not aware of any legal age in the USA that permits or prohibits castration, but I am less clear on the use of drugs to simulate the effect. I am aware that there are many constraints that say who (and in some cases how) castration can be performed.

Your profile indicates that you are about 20 years of age. With regard to the extract that I quoted from your posting, I recommend that you do some more research. For instance, if you were told about loss of energy, risk of osteoporosis, hot flashes, and other health risks/challenges that may affect a castrated male, but dismissed them, then you are doing yourself a disservice. There is a LOT of information on this web site about the effects of castration. Please take advantage of it. And there are a LOT of really compassionate people on this web site. They will be helpful as well. I am thinking of the "TheFraj" and "HumptyDumpty" as starters because they are approximately your same age; but there are others.

Doing the chemical (reversible) approach first is clearly a much better approach, and especially so for someone so young. Your writing is coherent and suggests to me that you are a person who thinks things through. When you stop asking the questions, stop pondering, etc., then you are more likely to have the answer within you, and that is the action that will be "right" for you (at that point in time). Just remember that physical castration is irreversible, period. Granted, some (not all) of the effects of castration can be mitigated with HRT, but what will you do and how will you feel if you later have a different perspective about castration? The issue here is accountability, and you are it, exclusively.

I am not trying to convince you into either doing or not doing this. For me, I am very happy that I completed the change that was begun by chance. But our circumstances are very, very different.

Well, I'm already planning on starting on calcium supplements a week before I start on anti-androgens, whenever that happens. As for the other side effects, I should be able to deal with them, even if it becomes a little rocky early on.

The reason I pointed out the memory/concentration issues is the fact that they undo some of the good I'd be trying to accomplish by taking anti-androgens, by replacing the hijacking of thoughts by my sex drive with having problems remembering things or focusing on something. That isn't the only reason, but is a reason that I'm considering this for.

That side effect occuring would be my one and only reason for even considering going on estrogen as well, as at least for Sherry that worked.

In any case, I still don't know when I'll be able to do anything. I don't go to my doctor's office that often, and it's not exactly around the corner; due to geographic circumstances beyond my immediate control, it's an hour's drive away. As such, getting there to bring this up would be a hassle, and even then he might be completely clueless as to how to proceed.
