Castration in fiction books

DM Thomas wrote close to the bone novels. "The White Hotel" was his acknowledged best,. There is one other, a castration book. Hold on while I see if I can track it down.

I ssem to remember from my youth, a future-fantasy paperback story about a matriarchal society where the men have to walk around naked. The two main characters, a couple, are reunited after another man has tried, by criminal means, to have him eliminated. She answers, "He was sent to a concentration camp". He replies "Oh". She then says that all convicts are completely castrated immediately on arrival.

It's amazing what distant memories can be recovered, isn't it? I wish I could do it in exams, I'd get firsts every time! Must go now, there's an essay to hand in on Friday.

Sorry to come in so late but there are another two I am aware of and have read. I have been trying to find them to no avail.

One is a maritime fiction set in eightenth/ninetenth century. The authors name was something like Northcote Parkinson or Whyte. The title escapes me. It centers around a Royal Navy Captain whose ship is captured by corsairs in the Mediterranean. The cabin boy is taken from their cell to be castrated. He objects and the boy is returned but they take him instead. He is held down on a table and told to lie still to make it easier and then castrated. The rest of the book contains a fair amount of his readjustment to becoming a eunuch.

The other one was set in Borneo area in contemporary times. I think the title was something like 'The Green Forest' it revolves around three westerners who come into a tribal society, how I can't remember. One of them rapes one of the tribal girls and is found out. He gets castrate for his crime by another member of the tribe with everyone watching.

Sorry I have been vague, I have tried to re-discover them on a number of with no success.

Yes, but better vague than not at all. By the way, if anyone is still following the D.M. Thomas info, the novel is "Birthstone". It should be in Penguin/Viking in the USA.

As for HairyHarry, it does sound, to me, a little bit Heinlein. Again, look at the writers and books we have itemized, and see if anything fits. I am pretty sure it's Heinlein, but I am hoping that one of my peers will still be reading this ole' strand and advise the two of us.

I am not surprised that Northcote Parkinson escapes you.

There is a paperback book still available in the major book stores titled "Marine Sniper" by Charles Henderson. In it there is a whole chapter dedicated to a Viet Cong Female nicknamed "The Apache Woman" by GIs near Hill 55 in Vietnam during the war. It describes her exploits, one of which is a very graphic description of her castrating one of her prisoners. Even wilder is that she seemed to enjoy her "work". !!!

There is a series of early war novel set in the late1800's early1900's featuring the English soldier fight in the Middle East. The two books of the series that I've read featured brutal castration scenes carried out by the women from that area. One of the books was call The Regiment

With reference to what dualballs has just posted, there are several pictures and cartoons of viet san women castrating GIs. Viet Cong, if you really want to know, was never a real name for these people. The Americans just thought it sounded nastier.
