Links to some other Surgeons

Post by mrt (imported) »

A few people have asked about doing orchiectomy with a surgeon other then Dr Kimmel. I have nothing against him or for him. I don't know anything but what I've read.

Ok, so here are some links that I've found and some personal thoughts.

1) Your local MD can refer you to a urologist. Personally I think this is your best bet and most likely to be covered by insurance. This assumes your not doing this as some fetish ritual or whatever.

*None of the rest of these is in any order

2) Dr Harold Reed Miami Florida

http://penisdoctor.com/testicular.htm

He responds to email and has a gallery of before and after pix so you can see what kind of work he does.

3) Dr Marci Bowers Trinidad Colorado http://www.marcibowers.com/grs/orchiectomy.html

She in known to respond to email questions and I believe is very experienced with this type of surgery.

4) Dr Bruce Gilbert New York

http://www.brucegilbertmd.com/ He is doing tests on a number of testicular implants. Don't know much more about him.

5) Dr Gary Altar LA California

http://www.altermd.com/ He is the famous Dr. 90120 TV surgeon and has helped at least one member of the archive including my friend "hairless"

NOTE some of these Doctors may only do Orchiectomy in connection with testicular implants. You will have to do research if they are able to help with your problem. Some of these folks do a lot of these procedures and if practice makes perfect that may influence your decision.

Dr. Reed did my surgery. He requires two letters from psychiatrists, but he's a great choice for transgendered people. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Alter also has an office in New York. He said he would do castrations on guys as long as they could prove they weren't crazy. He put down the reason for my castration and scrotum removal as Dysphoria. Call him or E-mail him and ask what shrink he would recommend that he would accept an opinion from. This would probably go for any surgeon who might help. It's for their protection and also yours.

Hi! I saw Dr Altar do a scrotum reduction tonight on TV. He seems to be a pretty cool guy.

I spoke to a therapist who said that asking for a mental health screening is becoming VERY common prior to surgery. That surgeons are being sued left and right and they feel that making this a step before surgery is just common sense. And btw this is not limited to males seeking genital surgery. He said he does a great deal of screenings for weight loss surgery and so on.

BTW he also mentioned to me that Nip tuck has one show about testicular implants. Not sure if there was an orchiectomy done at the same time but anyway, the fellow wanted "Big Balls" ala Pamala Anderson wanting big boobs. So, is that type of reason more mainstream? I think so.

Most of those surgeons only serve transgendered folks with referral letters. What is needed is a list of doctors who will do elective orchiectomies on non-transgendered males. There are plenty of legal routes for TG folks to get surgery already.

Drs Reed and Alter have done castrations on non-transgendered persons. I know Dr Bowers is listed as a transgender surgeon, but I'm sure going through the proper channels even she might be willing to do elective castrations.

Given that these surgeons would require an added measure of safety (ie. getting letters from a therapist) I don't think that it is too much to ask of anyone seeking castration.

Well said! I really think its a good idea to sit down with an unbiased person and discuss this before you get this sort of surgery done. Once done you can't be un done.

Also its my understanding that your correct on Dr Bowers. She does an amazing number of Orchiectomy for her main theme is SRS. That said I understand that she does Bilaterals for people whose end goal is that. And she also does implant surgery and some F2M as well. Its an interesting (and a bit weird) world we live in!
