Getting discouraged about castration
Getting surgically castrated properly is so difficult to do. My choices seem to be Dr. Kimmel, travel to a sex clinic in a foreign country, or finding a cutter. I have already ruled out DIY.
I live over 14-hours drive away from Dr. Kimmel, and getting there by airplane requires changing flights several times. And then there is the expense of staying in a hotel also. It is surviving the trip home while swollen and in pain that worries me.
A trip to the Netherlands or Thailand poses similar difficulties and even greater expense.
The only nearby cutter that I located seems to have a sadistic streak and is therefore not acceptable.
I'd have my wife do it, but she lacks the necessary skills and resources for surgery. I guess I should have married a nurse practitioner or a doctor.... [sigh]

You may not want to give up so soon on seeing the good Dr. If you are in Southern Illinois, it should not be more than a few hour drive to St. Louis or Louisville. United, US Airways, have nonstip flights flights from Chicago, Louisville, and St. Louis to Phil. You can use a travel site like www.travelocity.com to find out direct flight info for other cities.
Good luck in your quest. Where there is a will, there is a way.

St. Louis airport is about 4 hours drive away. All the other closer ones require changing planes somewhere. I think that driving is not a good idea after surgery. Perhaps I could just ship myself home in a crate via UPS.
I really want to do this, but I'm not happy about trying to travel so far. It took me a good week to recover from my vasectomy.

Re: Getting discouraged about castration
If we really want something enough, we have to make sacrifices in order to get it. If we arent't willing to make those sacrifices, then we may have to accept we will never have what we want.
My trip to Philly was my first time ever traveling alone, at age 20. I was terrified, but I knew that if I wanted to be cut, I would have to make the trip.
I live in California and had to travel all the way across the country by myself to get there. I stopped and changed planes once each way.
I would hope that if this is something you really want, you are willing to make a sacrifice to get it. If not, I would hope you will be comfortable with always wondering about what could have been.

Re: sacrifices -- well put.
I wish I was 20 again.
I wanted to be castrated back in 1975 but couldn't find anyone to do it, so you can see that this is a long standing thing with me. I have a lot of patience, and I usually get what I want if I wait long enough for it. I just wish that castration wasn't such a sensitive topic in the real world.

Re: Getting discouraged about castration
your old enough that finding a cooperative urologist in your state will be difficult but not impossible. If you were in your 20s it would be impossible.
Have you called every urologist the google search engine brings up.
Ask if they do elective orchiectomy.
The is just a matter of complaining about the pain in your testicles.
You had a vasectomy that took longer than normal to heal.My old urologist was very comfortable with castrated men.He did the procedure in his office on a regular basis.Didnt advertise the fact so it took a while to find him.At least he didnt freek on me like 2 other urologists I visited when they saw I was castrated. One even yelled at me.
Female doctors are the best when deaing with castrated man.I have a gp a practitioner and a urologist all females. They are 100 times better than any of the male doctors I have been too.
I have a female urologist as my old urologist retired a year ago.She seemed more than willing to do orchiectomy when I called her office.I was castrated 12 years ago so there was nothing for her to do.
Maybe she was desperate for new patients as men wont go to her because she is female.
She is not shy with me at all.Male doctors treat me like I have the plague.
One female doctor just simply told me she was not comfortable doing a orchiectomy for me.So I didnt waste a trip to her office.
You usually get a nurse when I called. One asked my age when I told her I was 40 she said that is a good age to have your testicles removed.Thats when I knew I had the right doctor and I made an appointment.

Re: Getting discouraged about castration
Thanks Sduyck. I'll have to get busy and try some phone calls. Not too many urologists locally, though.

Re: Getting discouraged about castration
Kangan, you can always do what a friend of mine did. He drew a circle on a map within a roughly two hour drive and started calling. About 20 calls later he found one. He and his wife went in for a consult and two weeks lated he had his orchiectomy. As Sduyck mention, the fact that he was 58 at the time helped. With me, as you know I am on depo-provera. My wife and I already discussed a surgical option and we will re-address it in January after I have been on chemical a year. Our MD knows I am on DP, so may not be hard for her to give me a reference to an urologist. I agree, local is better. You can always tell your Dr. if he/she is unwilling to help you can always go to Mexico or Philadelphia -- helps put things in perspective if they know you have an alternative if they say "no."
Good luck,
Don

For the most part I suspect that your concerns are a bit over stated. If done properly, the procedure should not leave great swelling. There should not be great pain, that cannot at least be controlled with Ibuprofen. Driving may be problematic if you are doing it. Time factors are your only real issue from my perspective. But then, as Plix said, sometimes we make the sacrifices need to get what we want. Think about things that were difficult to attain in your life and the things you did to get them - that car, the house, the fishing boat, whatever..... this is no different.
Your efforts at locating a local doctor are certainly a first approach. If needed, go beyond them.
