These stores also sell scalpels, sterile latex gloves, and syringes, along with various kinds of injectable drugs and vaccines. I am not a pharmacist or a veterinarian so I don't know what the various drugs were for as the names meant nothing to me. I am not in favor of using animal medicines on humans anyway.
I don't like the Burdizzo or bander methods due to the damage to the scrotum that results. I want to be castrated, but not disfigured. In a locker room, not many will notice a shrunken scrotum, but a big ugly knot of scar tissue would certainly attract attention.
My choice would be for a small incision to be made in the side of the scrotum. The testicle would be extracted, the cord pulled out as far as practical, clamped, cauterized, and cut. The incision closed with 2 or 3 stitches. Then repeat on the other side. You could use an Exacto knife for the cutting and a small pencil tip soldering iron or wood burning tool for the cauterization (Radio Shack or Sears has these in stock). You would want to maintain a sterile environment and also be sure the tools were sterilized properly too. Do not use a soldering iron that has previously been used for soldering with lead based solder. Use a brand new iron with a gold plated tip only!
One problem that I haven't found a good solution for is the suture material to be used for closing the incisions, or where to get it.
Recovery would be similar to that after a vasectomy. (Google "vasectomy.")
The only hitch to a DIY operation is the pain involved. Since the procedure is very similar to a vasectomy, injectable anesthetics would be a must. Some sort of high strength pain pills would be needed afterwards. Again, this would require knowledge of drugs that I do not have.
Don't try this at home. You'll probably make a big bloody mess of things and have to make an embarrassing and expensive trip to an Emergency Room.
