Progress Report

Just a small note to let you know that there is progress being made. As of the time of writing, a potential candidate for a new index2 (home) page, as well as a new set of softwre for the stories to reside upon. However, the one thing holding us back from complete success is the conversion of the existing story database to a compatible format. As there are currently just inder 7,000 stories, it would be a terrible shame to see them lost.

As well, I would like to ask for a small group of volunteers to have a look over things, let me know what they think, and provide constructive criticism. After all, this is your archive too.

Anyone willing to volunteer will be given the address to access the potential home page replacement, as well as the potential storyboard replacement once it is functional. All I ask in return is for the beta group to browse around and provide their thoughts and feelings on the matter. To help this along, there will be a new section created in the message boards here, just for their use, so we can have some discussion and post potential errors and defects.

Count me in as a volunteer. After all I think we are all getting a little fed up not that we blame anyone at Eunuch Central it is all the fault of the miscreant who hacked into Eunuch Central. Certainly us authors will not you up and running as soon as possible so that we can add new stories. In fact we just want you up and running again totally. And as dom if I could get hold of the miscreant, he or she would really suffer.

I'm pretty good with databases. Give me the old and new database schema and I can write a converter for you in Java that all you'd have to give is the connection strings (meaning I wouldn't be pulling any strings; more secure). That or surely somebody here knows Perl well enough to write a script that can do it.

Othewise I volunteer to help look through stuff. If you need any volunteers to go through the old stuff and flag it for content (gay, straight, violent, whatever) I'd be willing to help out with that, too.

If you guys are doing a full rewrite on the site, I would suggeste checking out this story archive. The format is very well done, contains a search engine, and has an auto author feedback that is all but automatic. And, the stories are rated by the readers, which over time gives you a good idea where to lurk.

Similar to EA, the stories are uplinked and then approved by a staff of volunteers, which also give them categories which can be used by the search coding.
