help removing sutures

Post by newlife (imported) »

Hi. I had three sutures placed by dr. kimmel two weeks ago to close my incession. I need a little guideance removing them. They aren't the dissolve type. Will they eventually come out over time or do i have to cut them out. I wouldnt think of any doctor to go to for something like this. Thanks!

You can buy a small sharp pointed scissor at the local pharmacy. The tip will slip under the suture. Snip it. Grab hold of the knot with a tweezer, also from the pharmacy, and gently pull it out. Done. Swab with disinfectant. Replace any bandages previously applied.

I may not be the best one to answer, but here was my experience. Thought all the sutures were the dissolving type. Guess I didn't hear correctly. After 5-6(?) weeks, was surprised they hadn't dissolved. The skin around them was getting itchy. Just went ahead, clipped the sutures and pulled them out. Not sure why I didn't call Dr. Kimmel first.

My only advice: Wait another week. Two weeks doesn't sound long enough.

Hi Newlife,

Since you are a new eunuch via Doc Kimmel, can you tell us what his new office looks like? Give us a description of your experience? Is the good doc still competent? We need info! Hash

Normally sutures are removed after 7 days if they are not dissolvable. If there is nobody to cut them out, you have to do it by yourself. Normally your doctor tell you when you have to remove your sutures. It could be quite painful if sutures are deep in the flesh. You have to pull them out enough to be able to cut them. Normally it is done with scalpel.

Do you still have swelling there?

Thanks alot for helping me with my little suture removal. I had to struggle a little to get them out but I evenually concured it. After almost a week of having them out, the small vertical cut has healed great. I cant even tell I had surgery. Hash, Dr. Kimmel office is very nice. He still has the castration skills to give a problem free surgery. He reminds me of a grand-dad.
