Has anyone here been on anti-depressants before they were castrated? Did it prevent depression after they were castrated? Did the does have to be increased to be effective?

I wouldn't be the best to comment on this, but I will share what happened with me.

I started antidepressants in Aug 2004 and was castrated in June 2005. From August 2004 to around January 2006 my medication was constantly adjusted each time I saw the shrink in an effort to balance things out.

I started out on 200 Mg of depokote (sp?) and 100 mg zoloft and now Im on 150 mg of Lamictal and 10mg prozac. The doctor Im seeing is making an attempt at slowly weening me off of prozac, so by his thoughts in a few months I should be down to just 150 mg of Lamictal and thats it.

I don't know enough about the medications Im on to say whether a cocktail of depokote and zoloft to lamictal and prozac is an increase or a decrease. I was on various other drugs during those two years while we tried to get a right balance such as abilify and seroquil.

What I can say, is that since my castration my overall satisfaction with life has increased. I am fairly certain that a good bit of my depression actually came from the fact that I wasnt castrated. Prior to being castrated, I carried a lot of guilt around because of the uncontrolable thoughts in my head. [see my profile]

I was on an antidepressant before castration and am still on it. I have not noticed myself getting anymore depressed than before castration. Actually I might feel a little better.
