copied/reposted stories

I don't think I've addressed this issue before, but since someone saw fit to be rude and uncouthe and copy my story IMMORTAL CASTRATI and repost it to another story forum as well as his download site WITHOUT my permission, I think I need to say it.

If you find a story elsewhere that might be of interest to Archive readers, and it is NOT posted as "anonymous" with no contacts, please contact the original Author first and ask permission and make sure you fully credit him/her/it.

Likewise, to all of the lurkers here who don't register to post or just come to read, please show a bit common courtesy if you would like to copy/redistribute any story or information posted here. It's not like we're losing money over copyright violations or anything like that. I simply find it rude and inconsiderate to do so when there are valid email addresses and instant messenger links all over the place. It's not like contacting a user of this forum is difficult to do.

Oh well, at least the one who did this DID put my name in the story review, if nothing else, and didn't claim it for his own work. That counts for something, I guess. I'm not really angry, just irritated. I get that way sometimes.

I thought I would share that the reason, and the ONLY reason I began posting Andy on this board was that a member here contacted me, requesting that either I post it or give him permission to.

My point is, at least one member of this board is honorable and follows the rules, no matter how abstract. The person I am talking about, well, you know who you are. Everyone else, observe and learn!

I have linked several dozen of my favorite stories by authors here at EA. I have explicitly noted that the stories live on the Eunuch Archive (and provide a link to this site) and are just links from my site. It never occurred to me that someone might consider such links as an unethical use of their stories without permission. This thread has now raised doubts in my mind. I can remove the links if authors object. What do you think?

I encourage links to stories and to the Archive itself because they help direct people interested in the subject to the Archive where, hopefully, they will become contributing members by writing stories of their own and posting on the message board.

I think the issue was one of stories being taken and stored on another website as if the original author had submitted them there.

On the 'Immortal Castrati' issue I do believe that has been worked out. The person *did* zip up all the chapters of 'Immortal Castrati' into a zip file and made it available as a download; however the person fully credited Paolo and didn't modify the files from their original format, so all of the links to the Eunuch Archive were there - basically the page looked EXACTLY as it would have had the reader pulled it up here on the Archive.

It was clear that the person who did this was a huge fan of the series and was enthusiastic about making sure his friends were able to have convenient access to the story.

PLEASE Do not remove any links to Archive stories!!!

I have a question, I recently came across a story in my Zip files, that I am confused about. There are many things about it that scream Limpone wrote this, but there is this little Voice in the back of my head that says NO, I only changed it a lot.

I really do not know which is true. I can remember writing much of it, and I know I used a British ‘Voice' to tell the story. But there is still this Nag that says it is adapted, not fully mine.

I have in the past contacted authors and gotten permission to rewrite stories, with the understanding that when I put it on the Archive, the original writer would be credited as well. It is a good story, and I believe many here would like it. Should I post it to the Archive as being possibly an adaptation, and request the author contact You to sort out what should be done, or what?

Well I really don't think that there be a problem with most authors that contribute to the board, but there may be the one. I would search the story archive and see if the original story it there and try to contact the author.
