I once worked at a group home for MR/MI adults. We had a guy with a diaper/baby fetish. He sometimes took the adult diapers from the first-aid clinic at the sheltered workshop and wore them under his clothes, only to be given away by the crumpled-paper sound it made when he walked. I went up to his room one Saturday morning to take him his meds and, assuming he was still asleep, barged in to find him spankin' it to a Rugrats cartoon.

I never went in without knocking again.

Hopefully, if I live to be old enough to make it to a nursing home, I'll have more sophisticated tastes in cartoons and I''ll be watching Moose, Squirrel, Boris, Natasha, Fearless Leader, Mr. Peabody, Sherman and Fractured Fairy Tales.

But I wanted to post MY favorite.

When I was in high school band I developed an instant crush on our band director when he picked up a cornet (not a trumpet!), warmed up a bit (the scales and arpeggios themselves were dazzling,) and played this:

That man could play the trumpet, cornet, and flugelhorn soooooo well. He gave a "recital" as part of one of our concerts and brought down the house.

I envisioned that handsome rascal (the band director) saving me from various hazards and even secretly referred to myself as "Nell". See? Even then Yoli was crazy.

Who'd believe a "Nell" with long dark hair?

I "finally" heard back from my attorney today. He has conferred with mom's attorney. Both see no reason why I cannot have all of mom's property transferred to my name.

He told me to start looking on Monday to see about obtaining a reverse mortgage in my name.

Things "might" be looking up.

Be very wary of reverse mortgages. There can be significant tax impacts, and the costs of the reverse can be pretty hefty. There are probably some non-profits who can advise you about these - they would be familiar with the laws in your state.

I heard from a loan officer about a Reverse Mortgage today and found out it was a federally insured program. The spokesperson I talked to said I had three options based on the current market value of my house:

1. $800 a month for the rest of my life.

2. $1,650 a month for ten years

3. $1,650 a month for five years and $64,000 in a savings account.

I'm considering option number 3.

Advice, criticism, insults, chastisements all graciously accepted.

Excellent! Glad to hear the news. I have no experience or knowledge of reverse mortages. Why you consider the third option interests me. I got into trouble with taxes on my IRA. However, this looks like an opportunity for you and a just reward.

Wolfie, I know this has to be a weight off your shoulders. Just be careful and make sure the deal is something you can live with. I am happy for you and glad you seem to have found a solution to your financial woes.
