I went downtown and did grocery shopping, paid off my water/trash bill and opened a miniscule savings account.

It was still scorching here in the high 90's. I want cooler weather.

Last time I recall visiting New Orleans was in 1964. I was going by bus from San Bernardino, California, to Fort Walton Beach in Florida. The bus stopped in New Orleans for three hours and the terminal was only a few blocks from the French Quarter, so I walked.

I arrived on Bourbon Street just after dusk and felt transported into a carnival of music, exotic women and alluring lights. There were hucksters in front of every bar trying to lure you in. I didn't look old enough and only managed a few peeks. Unfortunately, I was only 18 at the time.

A few of hucksters offered me a beer because I looked like a G.I. on leave. In those days, I was slim but muscular, my hair had a G.I. trim and my shoes were spit-shined.

I left Bourbon Street without tasting my first beer but having enjoyed my brief look into another world.

Sometines, I would see famous people wandering around the Quarter. We sometimes seemed to be the center of the world.

I'm Shrinking

I weighed myself on my medical scales and they say I weigh only 218 pounds.

Quite a difference from my plumpish normal of around 240 pounds.

Shrinking is not always bad.

I seem to remember not too long ago you did get a hair cut and beard trim. That could account for a few pounds at least, if not a dozen or so.
