Mac--
It's understandable if you think it's dangerous to ride a bicycle, but someone riding a bike can travel at least three times as fast as you can zum Fuss, and you get a lot less tired. I'm not familiar with your part of the San Bernardino area, but I don't remember San Bernardino itself as being hilly--not true, of course, after you get over to Loma Linda and adjacent areas.
Haven't priced bicycles for a while, and haven't ridden on one for quite a while, but I would guess you could get a used one for $50 or less. Of course, the helmet, the tire pump, the tire repair kit, etc. would add a little to the cost of biking. It's possible you could get a bike for free, if you have a neighbor whose kid just got a driver's license.
Don't forget the gloves and water bottle, you may need to get the bracket to hold the water battle, small tool kit, reflector stripes to put on that jacket, head and tail lights for safety of course, then you need foot ware, and I guess you need to go to a sports shop and get the proper cloths for biking. add another OH $500. But you will look good biking around San Bardo.
Maybe a better idea would be a Ural, its a WWII stile Russian now American made Motor bike with side car so you can take mom along.
Well anything to help a friend...... besides I have not posted to this the longest thread in months,
River
