Dealing with hot flashes

Post by Andrew (imported) »

My last post to the old board was on this topic, so perhaps I should post it again. As is the case with most aspects of eunuch biology, the question of hot flashes/night sweats is another of those YMWV. Your Milage Will Vary. Some eunuchs report none, some report intense flashes, and most are inbetween.

I myself have one every 45-60 minutes, but quite mild and not lasting more then a few minutes. Fanning my face and arms takes most of the discomfort out of them.

STILL, for those who would like some good suggestions, try this web page...

http://www.oxford.net/~tishy/dealhf.html

Some of this information is quite gender-specific for women going through menopause, but the rest can be used by eunuchs. I hope this is of help to those bothered by this problem.

Greetings, Andrew. You posted this important info here and on one of the Yahoo! Eunuchs groups, but no one is responding.

We're not ignoring you (I don't think). But thanks for the link. I take estrogen, so I do not have to worry about hot flashes. Still, I like the first suggestion in that link--sleep naked ;)

Very useful info, Andrew!

After my "first" castration I had a few months of rather severe hot flashes and night sweats. I would be standing and talking with a co-worker, and suddenly my face would go red and I would break out in a sweat as I felt the hot wave wash over me. I didn't mind really, it was just a reminder to me that I had finally achieved what I'd wanted for a long time. Nevertheless it was sometimes a bit embarrassing.

As those who know me already know, I allowed myself to be talked into HRT for a few months. The hot flashes had already pretty well died down, and completely disappeared when I began HRT. Well, after a year of that poison I had finally had enough and stopped the shots. I was somewhat concerned that I would go through the entire thing again.

This time, what I now call my "second castration," I find that I have VERY MILD hot flashes about once every other day or so. I don't know if the 10 or so months on HRT helped, or if I would have eventually got to this point anyway. But suffice to say, anyone going through hot flashes, be encouraged! Based on my experience I have got to believe that they will get better!

Update on 2 December 2001. A lady friend suggested that I post questions concerning hot flashes to alt.support.menopause and informed me that "The natives can be restless, especially when the topic of HRT is raised, but they're good folks and can be very helpful." I'vesubscribed, but will lurk until somebody else brings up the topic of hot flashes.

Greetings, Andrew. We (the two of us) are chemically nearly identical to post-menopausal women. And you go it alone but I take HRT, which makes the comparison interesting.

Oddly enough, transsexuals do call what we take HRT--hormone replacement threrapy, even though we aren't exactly replacing what we once had, we are adding what we should have had.

There is quite a bit of verbage on hot flashes and menopause/andropause (have you checked the andropause sites?). Basically, eunuchs have an induced form of serious andropause.

Andropause, for those who have never heard of it, is "male menopause," and affects a lot of middle-aged men. Some folks call this the "mid-life crisis."

It puts the "men" in MENopause. Hypogonadism is also a term for guys with little endogenous testosterone.

There is a Yahoo! club for this:

Kelly

Update on 10 December. Here is another web site devoted to women going through menopause which, of course, includes links about hot flashes and osteoporosis, two health items of interest to eunuchs. Lots of links to explore. If you are bothered by hot flashes, check this out.
