anyone in London?

Post by Zoroaster (imported) »

I would have put this in the personals, but, well...damn loser script kiddies.

Anyway, masculine 29 year old physically castrated guy in London right now, staying near Liverpool St. I'm here until the 19th. Anybody wanna show me around? This is my first time here and other than wondering around Soho I've no idea where the fun places are. The financial district isn't all that great for nightlife. :)

Hey Z! You'll love London, I know I did when I had a chance to visit.

Make your way down to Compton Street. There are many gay bars around there and I'm sure you'll find one to your liking. I seem to remember it being near the cabinet war rooms/Downing street area, but native Londoners please correct me if I'm wrong.

Liverpool Street is entirely the wrong place to be! The City of London (the 'financial district') virtually shuts down for the weekend.

Buy yourself a copy of the weekly magazine 'Time Out'; it has lists of events in London (and elsewhere)

If you're after 'culture'' the British Museum has quite a few statues that still have their dangly bits, (and some that have been edited...) (Russell Square tube) and the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Victoria&Albert Museum are at South Kensington.

I can't say that I'm a very good guide to London - I work near Russell Square, but the only times I've been in the BM have been to use it as a short cut!

heh; i'm well aware that the financial district is pretty dead at night, but i'm here for work - no choice of hotels m'self, but man, this one (the Great Eastern) sure is swanky! Good thing I'm not payin' for it or that minibar might be still unduly burdened with liquor.

is the Hoist any good? I've read good things, although tonight I think I'm just gonna crash early (after watching Dr. Who...what happened to Eccleston? He was waaay hotter than this guy). I want to see the National Gallery, the Tower of London, and the Natural History museum tomorrow, but I'm told I'll have to get up real early to make it in before the French weekenders clog up all the lines to get in places.

oh yeah...and some of the rubber fetish stores, hehe. Expectations UK is right around the corner (surprised the hell out of me) and I want to see if they'll custom make me a fitted jock that doesn't have a ball pouch. I tried one that does, but without anything to fill it with it looked pretty silly. :P

Oh yes...and the room did have a copy of Time Out. Frankly, I was pretty disappointed in their GLBT listings; their listings were almost exclusively dance halls (something I despise). I usually prefer more of a pub/bar/pool hall setting, ideally with some good punk and rock n' roll on the jukebox.

The hoist has a pretty formidable reputation. You can locate in the arches underneath the railway line out of Waterloo. Not too far from Vauxhall station. It is also quite handy for Vauxhall Cross (where the Foreign Intelligence Service - better known as MI5) hangs out. Also in that area is the Vauxhall Tavern.

There are a number of free gay newspapers available. I imagine that Expectations should have them, but I haven't visited them for years. If not, there is a bookstore in Camden near the canal. Clone Zone has them too, and is in Old Compton Street. Not far away is 'Rob of Amsterdam' (Wells Street) which is a direct competitor to Expectation.

I would offer to show you round myself, but these days I cannot be bothered and do not have the money to waste that I used to.

Hope you enjoy yourself.

Regards,

:)

Welcome to the UK! As I am not into the Gay scene but really a loner, I would not be much help, indeed I tend to avoid London at all costs, cannot really stand the damned place! Mind you I did make an exception last week to meet Jonah who is making a Channel Four documentary about Eunuchs. If you get the chance while in London perhaps make contact? Of on second thoughts perhaps that is why you are in London in any case?

I do apologise for this great country which is going through turmoil at the moment and is not alas a very nice place to be in.

Cheers

Heh; I'm enjoying the hell out of London so far. Admittedly, I'm working all the time during the week and have mostly spent the weekend doing touristy things, but hey. I know how ya feel, anyway - your opinion of London matches my opinion of Kentucky pretty well. :)

No, I'm not over here for any documentary. I'm not exactly the sort of person they want for those things anyway; I'm not nearly easy enough to laugh at or feel sorry for, which seems to be all they ever want.

Hey Z!

I'm in London. I live in Old Compton Street in the heart of Soho :) Happy to meet up and give you some advice on where to go. Although I tend to stay in the gay village rather than gallop all over London.

Your timing is a little out for your visit. At the end of next month is EuroPride and then the month after that is Soho Pride - both great events.

Liverpool Street is an ok area, but head east from there for local gay venues. Like Black Horse, the Ship the White Swan etc.

Get back to me via MSN or Yahoo and we can chat about when and where to meet up. My MSN is top_fun_now@hotmail.com and my Yahoo is top_fun_now. Enjoy London in either case :)

heh; Pride events aren't really my thing (a whole other conversation), but more relevant, I don't have any kind of IM access here (the hotel's net connection is, um, spotty...). I'll check out the places you mentioned, though, and thanks for the recommendations!
