For what it's worth, Messianic Jews refer to Jesus as "Yeshua." In a number of respects, their religious ideas resemble those of classical Judaism more than do the ideas of modern rabbinical Judaism.

No idea about the quality of the authors' scholarship, but, both in Holy Blood, Holy Grail, and in The Messianic Legacy, portions of both of which I have read, Jesus is described as having been from an upper class family. The word "master" which is used to describe him, supposedly could have been used to refer to many areas of activity, not just to carpentry, which has been assumed to be Jesus' line of work.

Yeshua is the name that they use. I have heard biblical scholars endorse that reading. The Gospels of Luke and Matthew accord Jesus great learning.

1. Jesus isn't a name, it is a title.

2. How do we know He was a good carpenter? If he wasn't, then it's a good thing that street preaching gig worked out for him. 😄

Jesus is a name. Christ is the Greek form for Messiah and is a title.

Old Softee, you are correct. Thanks for catching my error and posting a correction. Again, more proof of what happens when people post without first reviewing and editing their posts.

🍑👋

In other posts I think I saw the book Holy Blood, Holy Grail referenced. While it is an interesting book and does raise many interesting points, I am suspicious of the sources cited in the book.

I knew what you intended. That was a good point. I make mistakes even when I use grammar and spell check and even when I read my posts. I stuggle with that.

. . . I make mistakes . . .Welcome to the club, my friend.

I think that in first century culture anyone who had a trade that produced something tangible and useful (e. g., carpentry, tentmaking) was in a position of considerable prestige, approaching that of the educated (rabbi) class, comparable to or even above the 20th Century middle class, though of course below the ruling class or the Romans. I believe that Christ was often addressed as "Rabbi". But I may be wrong.

Take a look at some of John Dominic Crossan's books on the historical Jesus and on Paul. The is a PBS Frontline documentary about Jesus that might help you frame what you just posted.

Softee,

I knew a girl named Julie Christ once. She had the form of a GREEK GODESS...

I sure hope that I didn't get that GODESS shit started again... 🤫

What would happen if Christians gave up the bickering and decided instead to grow together in Christ?

You jest my young friend, People of all faiths are the same, they all believe that their view of religion is right and that gives them the right to pester people like us, they feel it is there job, there duty, and when you refuse - its time to get out the tar and pitch forks. Hell christian religions fight with each other they cant see the spirit from the flesh.
